Hi, I’m usually cutting with Final Cut Pro but am helping out some students at the moment using FCE (sorry, I can’t remember the version, but it was purchased about six months ago).

For some reason, their iMac Intel 20″ dual core has lost all rt fx playback. In fact, all the rt settings (in the pulldown menu) are greyed out, with only Play Base Layer available. Simple stock dissolves and opacity keyframing has to be rendered. This is when monitoring via FireWire and a DV camera. I’d have to check if we’re having the same problem when playing via the desktop. But, still, I can’t see why a dual core machine can’t handle dissolves?

Any idea what could be going on, or anyone else experienced this?

    Just using anamorphic DV25.

    Thanks!

Check to make sure that the RT tabs are all turned on in the settings window.

Do an upgrade and when FCP starts up again it will red0 the RT profiling.

Trash preferences and check Item Properties for the sequence. See exactly what specifications are set.

    All the best,

Hey, thank you both for the help!

I’ll do this. Unfortunately, the students can’t even afford internet connection, so they miss all the updates. I’ll try and download it before I go in again (although, I’m guessing these updates will only be available via software update) so I can run updates and then I’ll trash the pref’s, etc.
