Yes. or an “EXPORT TIMLINE CLIP” to MOTION dialog box that would offer the option to add handles to the exported shot.
It seems like a natural with the compound clip structure.

You are not alone.
It’s a new way of working for sure and I am finding, things end up being much quicker when looked at in real time and in a start to finsh kind of way.
Small kinks can be worked out.
It would be nice if they could use the MATCH TO clip function in the regular CC when you just want to see a reference image. Or just a one button click that opens a one time small reference pop out window you can drag near the image you are working on.
Or a COLOR ROOM window layout would be good for those of us who like to do all of the color work AFTER the edting and not on-the-fly.

Are you talking about using a Davinci style frame grab where you display a wipe of another frame?
I’m going to think about how to accomplish that.
You can copy the last shot to the next shot and so forth, but I think you are talking about a reference frame?
Some one might post a tutorial on that before the day is done.

I’m saying that perhaps depending on factors such as; the zoom level and whether a clips audio and video are split, could affect whether you are subframe editing.
Skimming might have something to do with it as well.

I think a lot of Final Cut Sever was rolled into FCPX. Eventually we will probably see FCP x on a San with Lion and various users checking in and out files or copying projects to portable drives from the server to work on the go.
FCP users who never saw or took the time to understand the database power of FC server might not be able to grasp what this means but it’s powerful file management in large multiuser setups when tens of thousands of pieces of media need to be tracked.

Niel,
I was playing around with the blade tool and it does seem that being zoomed in is a bit better.
I think what you might be noticing is how precise the tool actually is.
Since FCP X let’s you subframe audio edit it might infact be that you are on the Video side of a precise audio subframe.
If you look at the blade tool while you are using it, you will notice a subtle thing. It lays a shadow on either side of the blade.
Turn on TC and go to a frame with snapping on, then make a blade edit an see if it is cutting on teh frame you are asking it to.
That blade is really sharp, go slow with it. 🙂
