You shoudl always be rolling 5 to ten seconds of tape before and after a take just to avoid these problems altogether.
THis is a common problem with the stop start button and itchy fingers hitting the button saying “go” without proper tape rollup.
For now,
just use capture now with dec control set to NON CONTROLLABLE DEVICE, cue the tape to before the break, hit play and capture away.

Why not try logging arounf the breaks. To do this start any clip 4 to 5 seconds after a break and end a clip at least 3 seconds before a break. This forces FCP to capture what you have selected.
It takes a bit loner but is a smoother way to go.

What codec are your flash annimations saed in.
Can you save them in the annimation codec and then import them in to FCE and render them in a DV timeline.
What size? Resolution are the flash movies?

Thanks for the synopsis, I read through the thread a bit to quickly. I was able to get the firewire deck control to work when recaptruing the HDV through the sony deck. The andromedia was not around when I did my tests.
Gary is spot on with the transfer issue, but it will be interesting to see which networks will accept this as HD, because HDV isn’t really HD, it’s sort of H-DV a high quality prosumer product.
The way around the M-peg2 stream in post is to get it our of HDV, which means a transfer to a format with solid, reliable TC. I think that all of these limitations are very deliberate by Sony to keep this format in the Prosumer realm, hence the lack of RS-422, etc. This is sort of what they did with the early DV decks and camera’s, na machien control kept their Betacamers happy, and now they want to keep their HDcammers and XDcammers happy until they can release an HD version of the XDCAM.

Our FCP user group here in Toronto was focused directly on solutions to all of these post production problems that HDV presents and the consensus of many people trying to use this format is to dub the media prior to capture or to transcode it and not attempt to recapture it at all.
So many peoblems with the MPEG-2 stream.
The tests I did in my HDV article were very controled and on short sequences, but people attempting to use this format without a lot of front end planning are running into serious problems, much like the ones you are facing.
The best thing to do is grab everythign with handles and re-sync the shots. for the deck control try to use the firewire deck control while outputting the video via the component outputs. You will take a big quality hit there as the component outs are not that great.

The original Dual 1.8’s had a PCIX slot then a subsequent release removed them. The very first 1.8’s had a PCIx slot.

I am with you walt. SInce going Fiber and having everything in the other room (heck I could have it in the next county) is fantastic, but if I was only going to do HDV and SD, it would be hard to justify a fiber solution, this is why SATA might be the best, intermediate step before moving on to larger (expensive) fiber solutions.

I would check out where you have told FCP to capture the media too (as in which drive). You can set this in the user settings, set it and then try it again.
It sounds to me like the program might be quitting when it is trying to calculate avaiable disk space.

Many people are going to SATA raid solutions. I think this is the way to go as it is much faster and can be configured in protected raid storage solutions.
Firewire is capping out so SATA might be a better investment. The question now is whether there is a PCIe sata card available and how that product is working in the new G5’s.
The other issue is that app like FCP do not run faster on the new quads (YET) because they have not been 4 processor enabled.
Think Sata.
