Don’t low ball yourself. Don’t offer a discount. Do not roll over hours. (One day there will be a thousand built up hours and you will be an indentured servant.)

Make sure the terms of the contract are always in your favor. The client will always try to take advantage of you.

Don’t make the mistake of screwing yourself.

Sounds like your DP shot it in 720.
If the metadata says 720 that is what it is.

  • Use bootcamp and put windows on your macbook.
Download files using any of the above adapters.
    Reboot, edit.
Pretty simple, cost = 1 copy of windows.

You can render out the footage from the HPX-300 to DPX or AVI Uncompressed 10 bit and then pull the key from that. It takes up more hard drive room but it works well.

Contact Panasonic they can “upgrade” your camera to do both, but I think they charge $500.00.

I love my 300. The settings that come with the camera are very noisy, you have to change them. Turn down the sharpness, turn up the coring to like +7, I believe I also turned detail down to -5 and shoot everything at -3db.

If I remember correctly these are the settings I am using and this camera looks great. Wish I had a copy of the scene file on hand to check.

Have not noticed any skew yet but I shoot at 30pn most of the time and don’t use 24p also most of the time I am on a tripod.

I would recommend this camera, it’s a lot more heavy than a 200 or 170 though so if you are used to a small camcorder type camera then you may not like the extra weight, if you are coming from a bigger eng camera it will be lighter though.

The lens is ok but it does breathe a lot.

The 10 bit 422 AVC-I is great for color correction and I can’t wait to see what it does with a greenscreen.

    Thats my take.

November 1, 2008 at 12:02 am in reply to: recording a live gig?

If you are turning the input way down and the lows and some loud parts are still causing distortion you may want to put some kind of a compressor in line before the recorder. You can set a level there and it will crush down the loud parts when they come.
