Ok here is how to do it.
Make sure to save your premiere project before doing anything or it will not work.
Make a timeline with the part of the footage you want to use AE on.
Save project. After saving open After Effects.Choose File > Import
Now import the Premiere project. In the dialog box just import the timeline you want to work on.Do your thing in AE. Save the after effects project.
Now go back into PP.
File > Dynamic Link > Import After Effects Project (it’s something like that)
Now choose the AE project and open the comp that you made in AE.
Drop that comp into a timeline and render out with your choice of settings. That is it.

I have had success in keying DV footage with keylight, sometimes you need to pull more than one key. (Most of the time I should say) After you pull the key you can just go back and use a particle generator to put the smoke back in.

Here is what you do:
Comp size: use the NTSC DV, or if you want widescreen use NTSC DV Widescreen Comp Preset
(if you import any footage make sure to interpret footage correctly. If the imported footage is NTSC than you would want to
Highlight the footage in the Project Pannel. Choose File > Interpret Footage > Main
and then set the aspect ratio to whatever the highlighted footage is supposed to be.)
After Effects will apply the footage interpretation to the selected items.Solid size: Use “Make comp size” (make sure that the aspect ratio matches your comp)
Output module: Use Quicktime Movie and in Video Output Format Options choose compression “none” (make sure your frames per sec. is correct)
I am assuming you are on Mac (if on Windows use AVI instead of Quicktime)That should make your footage in FCP look great.

January 24, 2007 at 9:13 pm in reply to: After Effects UI Disapears (turns white) while adjusting filtersIt is not a ram problem, I have 2 gigs and it will do this with a comp that has 1 solid in it only. Also I have tried turning off open gl and even removing the plug in. Someone elsewhere said to test by turning down hardware acceleration, which I did, and when I get it to the third mark in the win. properties > troubleshooting tab for hardware acceleration, the problem disappears, but other apps don’t work correctly. This leads me to believe that there is a problem with the video card driver, specifically, with the implementation of Direct Draw, which is what is turned off at that point. I thought that AE used openGL but apparently it is calling the GL with direct draw commands.
As Nvidia has only one driver for the 8800GTX, I hope they will address this issue, my $100 440mx AGP card on the old machine has no problem with this and works fine. Of course Nvidia’s answer for this is “you should buy our $2500 Quadro”. I think that since my old AGP card that cost $100 can do this work, that my new $600 card should also work – thats why I bought their top of the line “non-workstation” card.
Lets hope they don’t just screw us all.

You should get DiskKeeper. It defrags a hundred times as fast as the windows defrager and does a better job of it also. It’s cheep too.

Thanks for your reply.
The a8n32deluxe is a AMD board, so can’t really be compared to the board that I want to use which is an intel board.
Hopefully someone from blackmagic will get back to me, but so far it seems like they don’t care if they sell multibridge extreeme’s or not. I am also looking at the Matrox X2 as I have a RTX100 that has served me well, the only thing is that I would like to have the SDI in’s and out’s for the future.Anyone here from blackmagic??? I tried your website but got no response, anyone?

May 11, 2006 at 11:42 pm in reply to: currently which DV capture card fits best with premiere pro 2.0?If you intend to use PP2.0 =DO NOT BUY THE MATROX RTX-100=
I own the RTX100, although it has served me well with PP6 – 6.5, it is not
conpatable with PP2, and though they may FINNALY make drivers work with PP2.0 for 720×480 (which is the only format this card is intended to use) it will NEVER be able to do HDV etc.
Also the hardware requirements for your machine are strict. Matrox does not support much of the new hardware like mobos and chips, which recently have come about.I am planning to build a new machine. AN832-sli Nvidia / AMD X2 / GTX7900 but since this configuration is not supported by the RTX100 I will need a new I/0
board. Maybe the X2 will be good (I’m sure it will never do anything except what they initially tell you) but it will probably do that well.I will also be looking at the Blackmagic Multibridge Extreeme, if they can work out the 8 bit AVI problem.
Hope this helps.

If you are planning to use the new Adobe programs AE 7 / PP2 then dont get the rtx100 as I have one and right now it has no support except “beta” for the whole suite, and that does not work with my “approved system”. With AMD dual it will for sure not work as it is not supported. (this is my problem as I want to upgrade).
The Matrox works GREAT with PP1.5 and AE 6.5 and I love it everyday, but when I move up to my Adobe Suite software and dual AMD system I will have to buy the blackmagic card or wait and see what pans out with the upcomming X2 Matrox board.
Also RTX will NEVER SUPPORT HDV only a 720×480 picture. It’s good at what is was made for but I think with the new Adobe programs it is a BAD investment.
Wait for the X2 or look at blackmagic or AJA.
