    Hi Murray,

I ran in to this a while back where someone had shot on a Panasonic camera off loaded the .mxf files then brought me the drive. A program called Sony XDcam transfer did the trick for me. There’s more info at Media100 and a link to the free software on this page:

It worked out fine for me.

    cheers

That’s a very clever design Gerry. As more people use DSLR cameras there should be a demand for that kind of custom rig. Very cool.

    Hi Marcus,

I have a lot more experience with AE than Boris Red, so I guess I’m much more comfortable working with it. I keep meaning to use Boris more though.

    Hi Walter,

Thanks for the post. Yes, my contact says they will be playing it from a Standard Def DVD but they are in Marketing so I am going to try to speak with the tech at the theatre 😉 I guess if it’s going to be SD should I just use NTSC DV Widescreen for my comp? As far as rendering out would you do something lossless, then convert it to ??? for burning a DVD for the best look?

    Thanks for the help.

Thanks Gerry and Michael for the prompt replies. I was guessing the pro res HQ codec was my best choice, but I dreaded importing that much material only to learn there was a better option. I’ll also check out the software you mentioned for the down convert.

    I appreciate the assistance.

    Cheers

    Hello Dave,

Thanks for the reply. As it turns out it was the Sony Media converter, the file actually looks okay on a proper HD setup. AND, funnily enough I still do have a 94 Pontiac Grand AM I use sometimes as a Winter Beater/ Take the dog to the beach car!

    cheers

No luck turning down the quality, but I found a work around for now. I will try your suggestion with the alpha matte etc when I have a moment, if only to learn how to do it that way. Thanks for the help Mark.
