  • Steve–I’m not near the editing computer right now so I can’t check, but I’m 90% sure the project properties are in fact set to Lower Field. I’ve always used the standard Vegas settings and I think It’s always been set on Lower Field, but I will do some investigating when I get a chance.

    Thanks

  • Thanks for your reply Stephen and please forgive me for calling events, clips, my bad! At any rate I will try to explain why I want to change the field order of the video events. One day I was supplied some SD 4:3 video clips that looked terrible after being rendered. After messing around trying to figure out the problem I noticed that the field order was upper field first, so I changed it to lower field and it came out great. Now I am importing AVCHD 720p files onto my timeline and they are not looking good after render. I checked the properties and they were None (progressive scan) so I changed them to lower field first and they looked way better. That’s why I ask my question. Any feedback would be very much appreciated.

    Thanks

  • Thanks Dave–much appreciated.

One other question–after copying the video files to my computer, what is the best way to clear the card for the next batch of video to be shot?

    Thanks

  • Update and a couple of questions for Dave or whomever cares to input.

I’ve been shooting some football at 720/60p and it’s been coming out pretty good. The 1080 was definitely much more blurry in the motion of the video.

Question 1–One thing I notice is that the quality of the preview seen through the eye-piece is not nearly the quality that I was getting with my old Sony vx2000. It seems to be somewhat grainy and not nearly as sharp or bright as the Sony. Does this seem right? I adjusted the brightness and that did make it better.

Question 2–For getting the video files onto my computer why can’t I put the card into my computer and copy the files off of it to the computer hard drive? 99% of my clips are less than 5 minutes in length.

    Thanks
    Dave P.

I was not able to find a script that would do what I want. I will be looking into Vegasaur-thanks for the info on that Steve. In the meantime I did try the snapshot method mentioned by Sam and that’s not too bad. Thanks for you thoughts and help guys.

    Thanks

  • Thanks for the info Mike. Another question–If I’m mixing 720:60 and 1080:29 in the same project (no SD video) for which format should I set the Vegas preferences?

    Thanks

  • Thanks Dave & John, Any thoughts on the extended warranty or the card size, type or brand?

  • OK–I’ve decided on the Panasonic HMC40! I’m wondering where the best place to purchase would be? I’m out in California, but it seems that even though it’s on the East coast B&H might be my best bet. Is it suggested that I get the extended warranty? B&H offers a 3 year plan for $215. What type of card is recommended? I shoot lots of football with the recordings usually lasting about 40 minutes. Obviously reliability is very important so I don’t care what the cost of the card is. I will probably buy two cards so I have a backup.

Any thoughts would be very much appreciated.

    Thanks

  • Steve–thanks for the suggestion. I checked and I did have the most current version of Quicktime installed. Just kind of baffles me as to why the clips show up in Vegas 7, but not Vegas 9.

    Thanks
