    Hello All,
I do a lot of work for local high school sports teams. Because of this I deal with video from several different cameras both SD and HD. I could have a highlight video that may use a mix of: SD 16:9, SD 4:3, HD 720 60 fps and HD 1080 29 fps. My question is this: How should I set up the project properties to edit something like this? Can I even edit HD 720:60 and HD 1080:29 in the same Vegas project? My final output is almost always to DVD, but I do also render for Youtube. I figure I should build the Vegas files in HD and render for DVD (not HD) for the DVD output and render to HD for the Youtube output. Working with HD is all new to me so I’m not the sharpest knife in the drawer with this stuff yet! I’m using Vegas 10.

Your thoughts would be much appreciated.

    Thanks
    Dave P.

“Can I even edit HD 720:60 and HD 1080:29 in the same Vegas project?”

I’ve done it before so the answer is yes you can.
Having said that, I always set my project properties to the lowest video type I have as upscaling SD video to HD video can look pretty bad.
Once you’re done editing and have made your DVD files, render it for YouTube using the Sony AVC Internet 1280×720-30p preset. I shot some stuff for my daughter’s 16th birthday on my older Canon miniDV camcorder (SD 16:9), rendered it using this preset and uploaded it to Facebook. It looked pretty good to me 🙂

Thanks for the info Mike. Another question–If I’m mixing 720:60 and 1080:29 in the same project (no SD video) for which format should I set the Vegas preferences?

    Thanks

Dave, I’ve never tried mixing HD sources before but my best guess would be to set it to whatever your desired output format is.
