https://forums.creativecow.net/readpost/24/961513There is lots of hardware talk that you can find, either by scrolling or using the search function if you wish to hear other opinions re: hardware.

I used to run Vegas 8 Pro on an Intel Core2 Duo with 4gb RAM, and an 8 minute clip would take about 2 hours to render. It’s time to step up to an Intel Ivy Bride i5 or i7 processor. I also noticed faster renders with my new system when I upgraded from Vegas 8 Pro to Vegas 12 Pro, just as an fyi.

March 1, 2013 at 7:11 pm in reply to: NewBlue Titler Pro 1 and 2 keep crashing Vegas Pro 12Whenever you uninstall something, it still leaves ‘stuff’ around. Even with drivers (there is a special utility that I use if I swap hardware components, to completely remove ALL driver remnants before installing new drivers).
Besides removing the folder left behind, you’ll want to remove any registry entries. In the ‘Run’ box, type ‘regedit’ (without the quotes), and go to HKYLocalMachine, then click on SOFTWARE. Find the folder for the removed product and delete it.
But as others have stated, your issue is hardware related.

Probably dual Xeon processors (yes, they are still available and better than the awesome i7). You’ll need a new motherboard since the cpu pinout is different. And since you’re already going to spend $2k on just those items, might as well upgrade to 64gb RAM and the Quadro4000 video card.
And make sure you have a RAID 0 config, probably with 4 drives of SATA6 flavor.

I’m guessing the “1280 x 1080” in the e-mail you received is just a typo.

February 28, 2013 at 2:01 pm in reply to: Dynamic RAM Preview – AMD 69xx GPU rendering freezesI get all my charts from detailed tests on the Tom’s Hardware website. I’m not just pulling garbage out of the air when I post hardware ‘stuff’. The tests that I quote from are probably the most detailed hardware tests/comparisons that you’re going to find anywhere.
Don’t blame it on Sony if the AMD architecture is not optimized for specific types of video creation/editing. AMD has their way of doing things, Intel has their way. It just so happens that Intel’s way is significantly better.

You are experiencing some type of hardware issue. Are the video files residing on the same drive as the operating system? What type of hard drives are you using for the video? I have the Radeon HD7850, which is a weaker video card than yours and I do not experience your issues. That doesn’t mean your video card is not the cause of this. Have you made sure you have the latest drivers for all your hardware, as well as the latest BIOS for the motherboard? BIOS updates, at times, can give a large improvement in system performance.

OpenGL is strictly tied to your video card, as Steve said. What type of card do you have? Make sure you have the latest drivers for the card, but not much else you can do if your card is under-powered.

February 27, 2013 at 3:59 pm in reply to: Dynamic RAM Preview – AMD 69xx GPU rendering freezesSorry to have to tell you this, but the AMD processor is really a poor choice for a video editing workstation. Have you tried disabling GPU renders, and just letting the CPU do it? Most people that have render issues usually seem to have them disappear when they DO NOT choose the GPU render option. You also have a lower-level video card, so you’re not going to obtain any benefit by having GPU render enabled.
Sorry to be the bearer of bad hardware news, but I wanted to help and answer your question.

I built my system for my 10 year old son, as his Christmas present this past December. I run Vegas Pro 12 on it, but i’m not a pro editor, only doing it for personal projects (ie- non-paid work), and my computer flies. My render times are the same ratio as my timeline length, with my 1080 footage rendered for internet use (YouTube 1080), and I only spent $1000, and that includes a 23″ IPS monitor.
If the current 3rd gen i7 processors significantly decrease render times, it’s hard to justify spending twice the amount (except for you pros, where saving any time is a big priority).
