Just get the Quadro4000 card and enjoy the performance. Who in their right mind would run professional editing software on a system with an integrated GPU?

Now by doing the above doesn’t mean that they’re going to be problem free, since we don’t know what their problem is.

Try adding a new user and give it full administrator privileges. Do a wildcard search for .jpg (*.jpg) and see if it finds all your jpg files.

Have you tried changing the preview mode, toggling between ‘best’ and ‘draft’, just to see if the issue disappears by using a different setting?

Have you looked at the GPU Acceleration page at Sony’s website for Vegas Pro 12? All the info is there. There recommended (ie- tested) cards can all be considered lower-priced cards except the nVidia Quadro cards:

If you pay $170-$300 for a video card I don’t think you’ll see any rendering improvement over the cheaper cards they have listed. I don’t even see NewEgg carrying the GTX 570 or Radeon HD 6870 any longer.

If you do this for a living, i’d get the Quadro 4000 and nothing else.

I keep my setup fairly simple:
OS is on SSD
Vegas Pro is on same SSD
All video files, project files, temp & render directories are on 6gb/s 7200rpm Seagate 1TB hard drive (my motherboard has multiple 6gb/s SATA controllers).

You can install a 2nd hard drive (7200rpm 6gb/sec. would be plenty) and use that to install the Vegas Pro software, as well as all project directories/temp/render files but with today’s hardware performance I don’t think you’d see any benefit.

My setup is not optimum, since if I had 2 drives striped as RAID 0 i’d get max performance, but I have yet to have any hiccups/dropped frames/stuttering/etc.

I don’t think I understand some of your question. You used to capture footage via Firewire, but your new latptop has USB 3.0, correct? Firewire and USB are two completely different interfaces, and i’ve never seen any type of adapter that allows a Firewire device to communicate with USB.

I use a 128gb Crucial M4 SSD as my system drive. It’s not the fastest drive on the market (the 840 Pro is) but it’s rock solid and has been a big seller because of it. It’s also priced quite nicely on NewEgg, where I bought mine. If your motherboard supports SATA 6gb/sec you’ll see blazing speeds (my system- Win7 64-bit- boots up in 4 seconds).

I don’t think that Sony has changed the GPU in any way. I would download the latest drivers for that chipset from nVidia’s website, then see if the GPU shows in the render option.

Just an fyi: i’m not sure what CPU your system has, but that chipset is for mobile systems, so you probably won’t see any render benefit from it.

HIGHLY unlikely, since Windows 8 came out in 2012. Microsoft’s history is major OS releases approximately every three years.

I’ll be a few years until Sony pushes people to Windows 8. I’d bet that Windows 9 will be out before Sony tells us to ditch Windows 7.
