I have the Radeon HD 7850 card and I don’t get any faster rendering speeds with GPU acceleration enabled vs plain jane CPU rendering. I have performed simple render tests every time Sony releases an update for Pro 12 (3 times), and I run the same render test when AMD releases new drivers for the HD7xxx series cards (AMD released another updated driver less than 2 weeks ago). There has been no improvement in render times during each of these tests.

We just have to sit tight until Sony finally gets around to tweaking the software to take advantage of the latest cards.

Is it a home-built PC? If so, i’d start with the most major part- the motherboard- and work out from there.
Flash to latest BIOS
Check temperatures!
Swap power supply with a powerful BRAND NAME model
Download latest chipset drivers

From there, i’d start swapping RAM modules.

Lots of times crashing is due to the tiniest, stupidest little thing. I’d bet my wife (please take her!) that you’ll find the issue and it’ll be a minor (ie- cheap) fix.

Quick mini story- my mom’s laptop was having random crashes, ended up being one small bad sector on the system drive. I figured it out by trying to do a defrag.

That’s not how files for DVD creation are generated. It always renders out two files: one for video, one for audio. You’re not doing anything wrong. Your DVD Authoring software will use both files and link them accordingly. Sorry you went through the trouble of uninstalling/reinstalling but it’s working correctly.

From what i’ve read on computer hardware sites, the Xeon always outperforms both the Sandy Bridge and Ivy Bridge i7 processors. Are you using the same video card in both systems? If the video card is better in your i7 system, can’t you just swap the two?

You’re not going to see any difference between those RAM speeds. Plus, you have to enable XMP in the BIOS. You’re better off with 16gb of RAM.

If you want your final product to be the same format as your original video, then your project settings AND render settings need to be the same as your original video. For example, if your iPhone video is 1080i-30fps, you will want your initial project settings to be set to 1080i-30fps, and your render settings should also be set to 1080i-30fps. AGAIN- the above info is an EXAMPLE, since I do not know what video settings you used to shoot your video.

Your project settings should match your video. If the video was recorded at 1080i-30fps, then your project settings should be the same.

I’m going to assume you’re running Windows 7. In the ‘run’ box, type ‘msconfig’ (without the quotes). When the Windows Cofig window opens, click the ‘Startup’ tab. You’ll want to uncheck EVERYTHING except your anti-virus software. Then reboot the computer.

Doing the above will free up system resources, and hopefully it’ll fix your issue.
