How big is the mp4 file?
When you view the movie properties in Quicktime what do they say?

Does this happen in any other programs? Like Microsoft Word perhaps?
I’ve seen this with other programs where they default to a certain font if some of the other font files somehow get corrupted or just plain don’t want to work any more.

Vegas 4?
I didn’t think copies of that were still working. That’s kinda like someone saying they still do word processing on a Commodore-64. 😉

I have no idea what a V1U is, but what I would try is:
1) through Windows explorer (or some other tool) can you copy the video to your local hard disc?
2) then load that video into your Vegas media library (or just drag and drop on your Vegas time line). If you can preview it in Vegas that way, then I would say it’s something with the connection between Vegas and your V1U.
If you can’t, then I’d say there’s something weird with the video.

Any updates on this? I have a friend who purchased an older version, doesn’t have a separate disc, and is looking for the free loops as well.

Can you post screen captures of what you do step by step?

This may be a ridiculous question, but when rendering are you sure you don’t have the audio track muted in the timeline?
Also, have you tried rendering the project as something simple like an mp3 file to see if you get any audio (without the video)?

I had this problem occur often with avi videos. Strangely enough, they call came from a friend’s camera so I couldn’t blame Vegas. 🙂
What I did to get around it is prerendered those clips in the timeline, and then rendered them out to another format (like mov). Then I took those mov files and brought them into my project with no issues.
Hope this helps.

Two things to try:
1) Import the clips into the Vegas Media library and then drop into your timeline from there (instead of dropping on timeline directly from Windows Explorer). See if that works.
2) Does it crash if you start your project off those those clips which are currently crashing Vegas, and then copy/pasting the other clips into the new project with those two clips? Eg, add the clips in reverse order to see if that makes a difference.

July 26, 2010 at 2:38 am in reply to: Audio sounds squelchy / distorted after YouTube has processed videoHave you tried rendering the audio with just a “blank” video (eg, something like just a black screen) to help rule things out?
Also, have you tried rendering the video in a smaller resolution (like 180×120) and uploaded it to see if the problem still occurs?
You also have to wait until YouTube displays the “Download MP4” button on their page to know that everything’s completed successfully (some people try viewing their videos before this appears, which means YouTube is still rendering and things could be muddled).
I typically render YouTube videos first in a small size to make sure it uploads ok, processes ok, and YouTube doesn’t claim “copyright infringements” against my audio. 🙂
