Were are looking for an option besides RED as well. To not have BACKWARDS compatibility between RED 4 to RED 3 is crazy! I don’t know of any other program that can’t open files created by a previous version. We have many on going projects that have RED 3 Static graphics in the timelines in FCP and they don’t open in RED 4.

Yes we have been using our 330 for transfering files via firewire.

Not to mention Red 4 will not open Red 3 static titles from an FCP timeline.

Using FCP 5.1 and above import files into FCP. It’s twice realtime! A one minute clip takes 30 seconds. It’s GREAT!

Yeah, I miss those days. The machines clanking back and forth trying to get in sync for the edit. NOT!
Love plucking the files from the disc at twice realtime! -
We have several on going projects that would take about a two days of work to go in and replace all of these Red Static 3.0 to 4.0 graphics. I can’t bill the clients for this. I am looking into switching to something that has backwards compatibility, maybe I’ll start using Motion for all our graphics.

Thank for the input Wayne. It’s odd you can’t force it to render to the other bit-rates.

Red 4 didn’t overwrite Red 3 on my system. I was told by the sales department at Boris FX that 4 doesn’t read Red 3 files in FCP. They said you have to keep both Red 3 & 4 in the system.

Delete all your render files and re-render.
