mixing XDCAM HD 25 & 35 problem
Posted by Dave Jenkins on September 30, 2006 at 9:27 pmI was testing the 35VBR and comparing it to the 25CRB. I tried to rendering the 35 in a 25 timeline and the 25 in the 35 timeline and neither will render. Anyone else tried this?

October 2, 2006 at 2:19 pmWell, yeah…..
You’re trying to mix apples and oranges when you try to edit with 25 and 35 mb/s XDCAM HD. The same holds true with the standard XDCAM. Think of it this way… why can’t you edit 29.97 video on a 23.98 timeline? Its the same concept.
The only way of dealing with this issue (problem) is to log & capture the old way. I learned of this when we first got our XDCAM stuff last year. The first few shows were shot in 40 mb/s and then we found out that FCP couldn’t handle the bitrate at that time. So we had to change to 50 mb/s and everything was fine.
Oh well, new technologies bring new troubles.

October 2, 2006 at 3:12 pmThank for the input Wayne. It’s odd you can’t force it to render to the other bit-rates.
New media, new challenges.
Thanks again, Dave

Yeah, you’re right!
And I thought editing with a Sony 5850, a Sony 5800, and an RM440 was cool twenty years ago!

October 3, 2006 at 2:41 amYeah, I miss those days. The machines clanking back and forth trying to get in sync for the edit. NOT!
Love plucking the files from the disc at twice realtime!
