[Eric Santiago] “So true. Im but f’ of nowhere and I havent seen a nMP at the local Apple Store since 2013.”

Is it an official Apple store? They should all have the same stuff in every store.

Does the built in Canon LUT to FCP X not work with your camera?

    > And the day BMD realizes it’s stretched WAY to thin and kills the free Resolve because it eats into the potential sales of it’s paid version…

    Never gonna happen.

What are your import prefs set to? Copy to library storage location? Or leave in place?

Did you use the import window when they were still on cards? Did you make a camera archive?

Sometimes if FCP X is quit while it’s media managing in the background it won’t tell you there are background tasks still going.

    It’s frustrating.

You can in the multicam angle viewer hit shift-r to replace the clips if you still have them backed up elsewhere and can import them.

[Gary Huff] “Ditto. This functionality really needs to return.”

If you reply to your own post the edit button comes back I think.

Michael Matzdorff’s ebook FCP X In Focus I consider to be the textbook manual for pro workflow best practices in FCP X.

It describes the workflow they used on Focus.

I still use it as a checklist when I start and finish a job. Worth every cent.

[Bret Williams] “No more permissions repair in El Capitan Disk Utility I’m afraid.”

You can still do it via the terminal or use Onyx.

  • [Ronny Courtens] “The ProTools guy at Swiss national tv even told me that the AAFs he gets from their FCP X suites now via X2Pro are much cleaner than the ones he got from their Avid workstations.”

My regular audio mixer thought I developed OCD the first time I sent him an AAF from X2Pro.

He remarked “Doesn’t Avid own Pro Tools? Why doesn’t theirs work this well?”

The part that gets lost in the conversation about this is these specific 3rd party functionalities are looked after by professional experts who continue to refine them.

The other NLEs that have it built in they maybe get bug fixes but once they are ‘finished’ they don’t really get any improvements, maybe just bug fixes.

The entire cost of everything needed to create feature film deliverables and turnovers is just over a grand. The kicker is because FCPXML actually can access nearly all the metadata they are actually better. The faster part is just a bonus.

[Craig Alan] “That said third party software is often left behind. i like Black Magic products, but their drivers are often out of date. i”

Agreed that their updates aren’t timely enough, one NLE works great, the other two don’t and so on.

I will say that it’s better than it was ten years ago where you had to freeze your system for six months or even indefinitely because a product was EOL’d without any notice. (I’m looking at you Matrox!)
