using a LUT = paying for a plug-in?
Posted by Philip Fass on July 13, 2016 at 4:01 pmCanon provides a free LUT for my camera, but it looks like I need to buy a 3rd party plug-in to use it. Is that right? Hard to find a direct answer to that question. (LUT Uitility seems fine but I’ve been in trial mode so far. )

July 13, 2016 at 7:40 pmmLut is free, and it gives me a button to load a custom LUT. Then I have to choose my own LUT the finder window. Where would my Canon LUT be via the finder?
Thanks.

July 13, 2016 at 8:48 pmDoes the built in Canon LUT to FCP X not work with your camera?

July 13, 2016 at 11:29 pmI was about to ask the same about the built in LUT but that aside, you can load the Canon supplied LUT from whichever folder you put it in.
(For some reason I can\’t edit my own posts so apologies in advance for the stupid mistakes and bad English that I can\’t go back and fix)

July 14, 2016 at 6:45 pmWhat I’m finding generally is that you either pay for LUTs and get the plug-in free, or vice versa. LUT Utility seems as good as anything for my needs, and cheaper than some.

July 15, 2016 at 1:03 pmAlthough Color Finale has LUT features now.
Wish I could say the same about Red Giant Colourista III. It has its owns strengths however. Who knows, the competitive nature of color grading plugins may force them into including a LUT facility in Colourist the next time around.

July 15, 2016 at 6:46 pmI wonder if a FCP update will add a LUT effect. They designed a LUT pull-down menu into a window, but left out a way to make the menu appear.

July 20, 2016 at 8:08 pmIn FCPX you can apply the built-in LUTS by selecting your clip, then looking in the Inspector. Be sure to select Settings. Then you will see the Log Processing tab. It will give a number of build-in optional LUTS. If a LUT works for you, you can select all your files and assign the LUT to all of them at once.

July 20, 2016 at 8:29 pmThank you, John. I don’t know why I couldn’t find this info (or the Log Processing menu) before, but I’m grateful for the enlightenment.
