[Jake Stevens] “Is this a good system to run Final Cut Pro X?”
Yes it is. The screen is amazing.
The main reason for wanting a Mac Pro is if you are going to be doing a lot of long renders, Red footage, lots of transcoding of footage.
Everything else that’s going to be a killer FCP X machine.

[Lance Bachelder] “Color Finale does not support tower Mac Pro’s with aftermarket GPU’s like the GTX 980 I have in mine and do not intend to. Sad as I liked working with it a lot.”
Hmm, that’s a shame, it worked with some PC version AMD cards, I wonder if Denver could fix that without too much hassle. (I know, software things are usually not that simple.)
Great article Lance. It’s going in my set of links I send to nervous producers.

[Ken Bennett] “The source footage is HDV 1080/60i. What should I be rendering (parameters/settings) out of FCP X to get clean stable DVDs and Blu-rays?
“You can make great DVDs and Blu-Rays from FCP X with very basic menus. Most of my clients just want the show to play when they put the disc in so it hasn’t been a problem for me. I can see that could be an issue for some.
You can also make a Compressor setting and encode the streams there to go to Encore.

[Jeremy Garchow] “A near perfect euphemism for the Double_Secret_Society_NDA version of FCPX.”
In all seriousness, although I didn’t go, I still take that as a big deal they made that happen with all the secrecy up there.
The only thing I know is when the CEO on every unscripted interview gets asked anything that the pat response is “We don’t speak to any future products.” except for when he does.
It must be just as frustrating for them as it is for us.

[Jeremy Garchow] “but still, what do Tuesday’s usually bring?”
Promises from Wimpy to pay you back for a hamburger?

[Ken Bennett] “I am not using the built-in DVD/BD SHARE options since they offer zero professional menu creations.”
Try them as a test, then decide if you can live without a bells and whistles menu.
You can make a nice simple one in FCP X, just no easter eggs and deep function menus.

[David Mathis] “What happens when you let fluffy in a Xerox machine? You have a copy cat!”
Xerox machines, those are the Catillacsâ„¢ of photocopy machines!

[Andrew Kimery] “I can only imagine how long MC will keep going if it’s plug suddenly gets pulled.”
If it’s anything like how long people are keeping ScriptSync alive by not updating MC or their OS, probably quite a while. Yeesh.

[Neil Goodman] “And apple has factory workers in China with horrible conditions where people are offing themselves. Whats worse? I dont know. “
That is a misleading oversimplification of the situation. The claims that Mike Daisey sensationalized ended up being false to the point that “This American Life” and NPR had to issue full apologies after he admitted to making most of it up when they fact checked his claims.
The labor laws in China are deplorable, so much so that getting jobs at foxconn are considered the best of an otherwise terrible reality. People camp out just to apply as Apple sets much higher standards for their vendor’s factories than what is legally required there.
People keep saying the 5K iMac is the one to get, but I sleep a tiny bit better knowing my ‘trash can’ was assembled in Texas.
