I selected wave in the preferences tab for control panel and it just worked.Darin Wooldridge

September 2, 2010 at 6:31 pm in reply to: Happy to report my mac DaVinci Resolve is up and running!!!!Update:
I’m playing 2k dpx 10 bit log frames in an hd time line, 6 nodes of color correction, input lut, 5 windows all playing @ 24fps. Window tracking at 11 fps. Wave is working well. Preconform, edl and scene detector are working as they always have on the current davinci resolve. I have seen several improvements. Render speeds not bad at all . Tested dpx, 444prores, compressed qt, h264, and mxf.
Much more to come.

So far the beta is working well and test results are very positive. I hope black magic will have a release date soon.

It needs an NVidia gt120 for the display and gtx285 or fx4800 for the cuda power.

August 23, 2010 at 11:55 pm in reply to: Switching Apple Color to Resolve… Good idea or Great idea?I have finished a few films on apple color. Workflows from 2k log dpx conforms to hdcam sr deliverables to red camera even the 5d. At the office I use the da vinci resolve everyday and welcome it as a color replacement at my home studio. The ability to create looks at home that I can carry to the big iron house is something i have always dreamed about.
The color correction tools / still store / auto tracking/ color trace / lut management/ playout features and render options on the resolve are leaps and bounds ahead of color.
I expect all and more from the future release and welcome the change even with the expensive upgrade of new mac, video cards and I/O cards.
But as Joseph noted its not the car its the driver. If your a final pro wizard and have learned on color you may want to stay with what you know. I however love to learn new gear and play with the latest and greatest tools technology has to offer. Color has many huge issues in my opinion.

Leonardo,
Spoke my friends at black magic. As I noted. On the current da vinci resolve you MUST render to get any windows to tape. I have been using power mastering for the past 4 years, your comments made me think i was missing something. Turns out i am not. After testing last night then speaking to davinci I am 1000% sure window burns to tape requires a render pass.
Version 7 and the new hardware will however do this without a render pass.

I tried several powermastering and cache setting to get the window burns to go to tape. The only way I was able to achive this was render the burn ins into a new file for playout.

Leonardo,
Wow.. I learn something new every day. May I ask what version of the software you are using? I tested this years ago and found the windows will display on the GUI but not the sdi output. I must have missed something. Looks like I have some testing to do when I get to work tonight. Is it doing a cache of the entire reel and rendering the windows into the cache file?
