Oh, that bug.
There are many crazy things about MM so I was just asking.
Good to know about this fix. Thanks Sean,

What’s fixed?
What do you mean by “rebuild a project”
What did you use MM for? Thanks,
Dan -
So you are saying Decklink HD will not downconvert a 720p project
to SD for output to a DigiBeta for instance? This isn’t clear in the
marketing on the Blackmagic site. I’m in the process of deciding which
company and which card to buy going from our SD setup, and this would
be an important feature.Thanks,

You should watch for deals on this monitor:
Dell 20in 2005FPW LCD. It’s a very good monitor.
There was just a deal that expired at $334.
Now it’s $434 (I think).
I’m fairly positive you could get this monitor for
between $340 and $500 almost anytime. You just have to watch for the deals.
Go to sites for price searches like http://www.dealmac.com or http://www.techbargains.com
and others. They are always listing the Dell stuff.
Even the 24 inch goes for $799 every now and then.
In fact, even the monitor you listed just had a deal for $319.
but that’s expired. Believe me Dell is always having deals. ALWAYS.Dan

A newer version of what Shane posted is here and I use it with FCP5
with no problem.
https://www.kenstone.net/fcp_homepage/basic_onlining_jordan.htmlTitles will come through. Transitions will come through if they
were from FCP and not some plug the other editor had on his system.
Still frames will not always come through. You may have to recreate them.
You will see the timecode number of where the still frame occurred on the
clip title.
Speed changes will not come through. You will need to find out
what was there. Hopefully he’ll give you a copy of his offline
to see what needs to happen.
Bottom line is, FCP is not foolproof when it comes to uprez,
but if you follow the directions in the link above, it will be
pretty good. FCP is NOT an AVID when it comes to this, sadly.
My workaround has been to just do less finishing in the offline
and wait until the uprez to it. The client doesn’t
get as polished an offline but it makes getting the project done
and through the uprez much easier.Dan

December 2, 2005 at 8:39 pm in reply to: STILLS that looked great in FCP4.5 look very BAD in FCP5Tom,
Not sure if this will help, but the line above the sequence should be blue.
If it’s any other color, something isn’t completely rendered.
And also your video processing setting may be wrong.
First go to sequence, settings, video processing tab.
select best for motion filtering quality. hit OK.
Second, go to sequence, render all, and check all the colors there ALL OF THEM.
Now go to sequence, render all, both, (for both audio and video).
See if this helps.Dan

November 30, 2005 at 3:40 am in reply to: External Video can’t switch to “All Frames” in FCP 5You need to go through your input settings.
FCP is obviously seeing the firewire device or your could not
control it. But you don’t have the video and audio inputs
selected correctly. You aren’t going to be able to set your
external video to “all frames” unless FCP sees that you have
a video output device connected. FCP doesn’t think
you have one. From the Final Cut Pro menu, go to
audio/video settings. Look over all the settings
and see if everything is looking at your Sony Camcorder.
What happens if you play a clip or sequence?
Does it play out through your firewire device to your NTSC monitor?Dan

What he said.
If it’s a limited amount of people you want to see it and you know who they are,
and they are PC users, just get them to download the latest iTunes
for Windows. It includes Quicktime 7. It’s all automatic for them.
If they are Mac users, just have them do a software update. Now they can see H.264.
This will allow you to encode with H.264 which is much better looking video
than Sorenson for the same file size. Sorenson looks good too but the file size is much
larger for the same quality you get with H.264. Try a variety of codecs and
quality levels to see what is acceptable to you and your clients.Dan
