We’ve all been frustrated like that before I think. But Mike’s right. This forum is monitored by several of us that can answer questions for you within hours, even minutes. Vegas is the easist program to use in my opinion, so you’ll be up and running soon.
There are several video tutorials on this forum to help as well.

I very rarely use tape anymore due to just that, and costly repair bills to repair a camera because it ate a tape. I use a Blackmagic Intensity Shuttle with my HDV camera, no tape, No m2t compression artifacts, but It’s always in my studio. In the field, I would go for this in a minute.

Yes it is. But your getting ready to spend 5 grand on a camera. For about a grand like I said, you can build an i7 that’ll edit and play that 1080 60i AVCHD video that from camera your getting ready to buy, easily. If you didn’t need XLR inputs, I’d try to talk you into looking at the TM700. It shoots 4 different bitrates of 1080 60i but also captures 1080 60p at 28 Mbps. An i7 and Vegas pro 10, both 64 bit can edit and play my 1080 60p, not i .mts files with ease. $5000.00 dollars is alot. If it was me, I’d build a fast computer and buy 3 TM700s and spend less than that. I have a Sony HVR-A1 with XLR, phantom power and I don’t even use it. The video from it doesn’t compair with the TM700 video. Just look at the specs here.
I will gladly send you a sample clip to compair with if you like.
Don’t worry about AVCHD editing being difficult. It’s what’s coming and you may as well get a machine to handle it.

Esata drives will give you a faster read/write speed than USB 2. I use USB 2 drives and don’t have problems, but if we had alot of video tracks and Vegas had to read them all from a USB 2 drive there may be a bottleneck there.

Is it Vegas Pro 10 you have? What format are the pics and videos you are trying to import? Normally when you put a video on the timeline, it shows two tracks, the video right above the audio. Are you not getting an audio track under the video? What kind of camera did the videos come from? Sorry for all the questions but there’s not enough info for us to help you yet.

If your HDTV is now a secondary monitor, you can also click on the fullscreen icon at the top of the preview window and it will be fullscreen on your secondary monitor.
The color correction filter has to change every pixel so it’s kind of a resource hog and will limit your preview framerate. Also Vegas Pro 10 by default has the preview window lower the quality to give you more frames per second. If you right click in the preview window, you can change this to stay on the setting you select at the top of the preview window. Best/full is the best quality but the framerate is lower. Preview/auto is where alot of people set it as it’s still pretty clear and gives you more frames per second. -
This forum or the help file can point you in the right direction. It all depends on what it will be viewed on and what will be playing it. Look through the render as, selections and some presets are self explanitory. What camera do you have and where do you want your videos played?

I have a Panasonic TM700 and built an i7, all for under 2 grand. It edits 1080 60p like butter. You may want to look deeper into AVCHD cameras, and tapeless. And the camera has all the manual settings.

Hmmm, DV avi is all I frames and HDV has two per every 30 frames so the most delay of start should be a half second, uploading HDV.
I don’t know of any format that has one I frame for a few seconds. I think your right with the YouTube experimenting with their encoding.
YouTube re-encodes everything you upload so I think the best quality you can upload that still fits within the upload limits, (file size and time length) is the way to go.
Still I see some 720 and 1080p youtube videos that load much faster than ones I have uploaded. Anyone know how to get either to load faster?
