[Matthew] I notice SVP’s stabilize tends to morph the image sometimes.

I’m curious about what you mean by morph. I know it does crop the video, and how much depends on how you set the parameters in the stabilize effect. The higher you set the amount of the settings, the more it crops but I have not experienced any morphing or distortion. I practice on moving back or zooming out a little while holding a camera to leave some room for cropping as to not lose any part of the image I need to keep. I made a cheap mans glide cam with an old small optics mount that works fairly well. The smaller and lighter the camera is the harder it is to hold steady as we all know. Try holding a gopro still. LOL this mount weighs about a pound. If I hold it it right at the top of the mount where it screws into the camera, the weight helps hold the camera level and steady. Imagine holding a light foot long rod with out shaking. It’s still hard to hold still. Now imagine putting a pound weight at the end of the rod. It’s much hard to shake. It would be easy to make something like this.

July 2, 2015 at 6:51 pm in reply to: HDV Capture Problem

I used to use SVP to capture HDV all the time without issues from my Sony HVR-A1 until I put a tape in it and tried to record once and the camera just died. I sent the camera to Sony for repair. They actually told me “The internal fuse burned out and blew the main board”. I called them and asked them did they know that fuses are used to blow and PROTECT the hardware. They just stuck to their story, said they repaired it and sent it back. It did work but you could not charge the battery while it’s in the camera anymore and If I choose to sell it one day I want it FULL working order. I had to send it back again and it cost me $400 dollars. I put a tape in it and everything worked again, but I’m kind of afraid to capture to tape with it anymore. I have since bought several better cameras that use SD card instead of tape. I still use the Sony sometimes since it has XLR inputs with phantom power so I can get WAY better audio than all my other cameras. I was capturing via firewire, without a tape in it. I also got a Black Magic Intensity Shuttle USB 3. Now I capture via component and rca audio out to the shuttle and bypass the HDV m2t compression and capture straight from the imager chip as 1080i motion JPEG or 8 and 10 bit uncompressed avi if I use my other laptop that I put a 500 gig solid state drive in.Also if the power supply is connected to the camera, I can capture way longer than the one hour tapes. It’s not as portable as using a tape since I have to bring a laptop with it but the quality of the video is better than m2t compressed.

  • I can watch your video in 720.

I normally use Vegas 10e as it works for me. So I tried it in Vegas 12 and discovered some things. Here’s a pic of the stabilize effect in Vegas 10. With 10, it shows up in Tools / video/ on the top of the choices. I applied it to an event and it took about a minute to render for a 3 minute video. I can see the difference afterwards.

Here’s a pic of Vegas 12. I can right click on the event/ media FX and added stabilize and it is responsive with the event on the timeline and in the project media tab. I tried applying it both ways and it finishes in less than 1/4 of a second and I don’t see a difference in the preview. It doesn’t seem to work in Vegas 12.

Here’s a pic of trying it by trying it with the timeline event icon. It tells us how to supposedly use it now and is not responsive.

Also Vegas 10 plays 1080p 60 perfectly smooth with the preview set to best full. Not so for me with newer versions.
Just another reason why I stick with Vegas 10.
Anyone have any good reasons why newer versions are better?

John beat me to it. You can just drag your curser over the time line time count to create your loop points as well as the (I) and (O) keys.

Win 10 is alot like win8 but the tiles are bigger and update in real time as well as adding the bottom task bar back. Search youtube for win 10. There’s alot of preview vids to check out. I don’t care for8 or 10 unless it’s on a tablet. My Surface Pro 3 has 8.1 on it, but I put classic shell on so it can look and act like win 7 but If I take off the keyboard the 8 UI is ok then.

  • Youtube still accepts and lets me view my 1080p uploads in 144p, 240p, 320p, 480p, 720p and 1080p.

Do you have enough hard drive space? I know that’s kind of stupid to ask but just adding video to the timeline doesn’t use any drive space but the audio has to build the waveform, and if your hard drive is full,,, that’s the only thing I can think of.
