SVP13 Sony Stabilize APPLY button doesn’t work
Posted by Matthew Jeschke on July 1, 2015 at 7:06 pmAnybody else having this problem. Recently upgraded to 13. Following instructions to stabilize video shot on my Canon 5d mk2. Worked like a champ on same files in SVP10
Now when I add the FX to the clip it will not let me press the apply button.
Copied details from clips “general tab” that specify file type,

July 1, 2015 at 7:50 pmThat’s the problem. The apply button is not responsive.
Stabilize works on clips but not on this camera as SVP10 did.

July 1, 2015 at 7:57 pmI believe that later versions of the Stabilize plug-in only work as a Media FX. if you placed it on an event on the timeline, remove it, find the media that the event uses in the Project Media, right-click on it and select “Add Media FX” and then add Stabilize. That should make the Apply button work.

July 1, 2015 at 8:05 pmHoly weirdness batman… That worked, wonder why when I right click clip in timeline -> then click media FX… It does not work… But if I right click clip from Project Media tab -> then click media FX from context menu it works.
Thanks for your help. You saved my day!

July 2, 2015 at 1:35 amI normally use Vegas 10e as it works for me. So I tried it in Vegas 12 and discovered some things. Here’s a pic of the stabilize effect in Vegas 10. With 10, it shows up in Tools / video/ on the top of the choices. I applied it to an event and it took about a minute to render for a 3 minute video. I can see the difference afterwards.
Here’s a pic of Vegas 12. I can right click on the event/ media FX and added stabilize and it is responsive with the event on the timeline and in the project media tab. I tried applying it both ways and it finishes in less than 1/4 of a second and I don’t see a difference in the preview. It doesn’t seem to work in Vegas 12.
Here’s a pic of trying it by trying it with the timeline event icon. It tells us how to supposedly use it now and is not responsive.
Also Vegas 10 plays 1080p 60 perfectly smooth with the preview set to best full. Not so for me with newer versions.
Just another reason why I stick with Vegas 10.
Anyone have any good reasons why newer versions are better? -

July 2, 2015 at 2:42 amI was running VSP10 and it wouldn’t play my videos on the timeline very well. It also occasionally would crash, especially if I didn’t disable the virus protector and background services like it.
I didn’t get a chance to evaluate 11 or 12. But 13 had the GPU acceleration feature.
The thing that surprises me is its so slow to render. Not any faster than my older version 10. I’d have thought better GPU utilization would have assisted with render times as well.
I’m running an 8 core 4 ghrz AMD processor (cannot remember the type FX?) With a 7950 Radeon GPU, SSD HD, and 8 gigs of memory.
My timeline playback with SVP13 is INFINITELY better than I got with SVP10. 10 I’d litteraly have to put into draft quality timeline playback. Now I can do full best on SVP13 and playback, it will skip from time to time on clips that are reversed, sped up, and on some clip transitions. Haven’t had it crash yet on me though which is great.

The Stabilize plug-in was licensed by Sony from ProDAD. It’s based on Mercalli which may not use a GPU. Vegas Pro users can buy Mercalli V2 plug-in to get even better stabilization but it doesn’t support Movie Studio. There is also a stand alone version that is up to Version 4. While not as convenient, you might want to stabilize your footage with the stand alone version first before editing and then edit with the already stabilized footage in your project. This will increase render times significantly since you will only render the stabilized footage once before editing.

July 2, 2015 at 7:59 pmJohn you’re AWESOME! And I LOVE this forum. One of my favorite hands down. I feel mounts, and better camera control are ideal. I drool over footage from the guys who use them. However, they’ve invested thousands (if not tens of thousands) in rigs. This software really helps avoid that expensive investment with a responsible level of quality.
I notice SVP’s stabilize tends to morph the image sometimes. It’s more than good enough but not spot on. I’ll have to give the full fledged Mercalli plug-in a try 🙂
Thanks!

I’m curious about what you mean by morph. I know it does crop the video, and how much depends on how you set the parameters in the stabilize effect. The higher you set the amount of the settings, the more it crops but I have not experienced any morphing or distortion. I practice on moving back or zooming out a little while holding a camera to leave some room for cropping as to not lose any part of the image I need to keep. I made a cheap mans glide cam with an old small optics mount that works fairly well. The smaller and lighter the camera is the harder it is to hold steady as we all know. Try holding a gopro still. LOL this mount weighs about a pound. If I hold it it right at the top of the mount where it screws into the camera, the weight helps hold the camera level and steady. Imagine holding a light foot long rod with out shaking. It’s still hard to hold still. Now imagine putting a pound weight at the end of the rod. It’s much hard to shake. It would be easy to make something like this.
