Is your camera in VCR mode before you do this? Also I think it should say for external preview device, OHCA Compliant IEEE-1394/DV

How slow framerate in the preview are you talking about. Even with SD and a few tracks with a few effects, it will drop your framerate in the preview. If your expecting 30 fps, you will need to render out the critical parts to see that. There seems to be a limit on the preview speed even with super fast quad cores but the render speeds really improve with thoses fast machines. But in comparison with other NLE’s like Avid, non hardware based, Vegas does well. Untill just recently alot of other NLE’s with any effects needed to be rendered to see at all. Vegas has leaded in this previewing with effects and transitions for along time. Hope this helps, Danny Hays

If you check no recompression for long GOP rendering in your Preferences, and your rendering to the exact format with no effects, resising or transitions you should see no recrompression needed on your preview screen as your rendering, at least in Vegas Pro 8.

I have seen red frames in the timeline when I used On Location to record HDV and mpg but not as m2t.

I believe the overscanning on an LCD TV is from the player and not the TV. I can connect a computer via VGA with media player full screen and there’s no overscan, while if I use other sources they sometimes will overscan. Hope this helps. Danny Hays

I believe you can save and check save media with the VEG file. This should copy the files to your hard drive and will make for alot faster editing as your not haveing it read from the DVD.

Pan and crop would have to be 3d too. It’s not real easy to crop and place a video in a mirror that is most likely not square from the cameras view and moving too,,, If you havent shot it yet, you can cut out a piece of flat green paper or posterboard that fits exactly in the reflective part of the mirror and chroma key the other image in it. This method takes away alot of keyframing.

It’s probably hidden it the dock. You can resize them and find it. Or grab the little dots area and tear it from the dock for full viewing. Hope this helps. Danny Hays

Select View at the top and check Video Preview. If it’s allready checked then it’s being hid. Drag the several dots area of each tab and tear it from the dock until you find it. As a last resort, If none of this works you can hold down the shift key I think, as you launch Vegas to get it back to default, but I think you can loose presets you made this way,, Like I said as a last resort.
