Not sure if this was answered 5 YEARS AGO, but for all those searching through google here is the answer found in other results.

It’s an Avid codec and it can be found here:

It depends on what format you want to output the project as. If you want to leave the final product as 1080/25p than make sure your sequence settings are 1080/25p. They just need to be the same to avoid excessive renders.

If you need to have different settings for your sequence, convert your footage to the sequence settings in Compressor. Hope that helps.

It’s showing you Excess Luma, if you want to turn that warning off click the third tab at the top of your FCP canvas, uncheck “Show Excess Luma.” To fix for broadcast, use the “broadcast safe filter” located in your effects folder.

The math compressor is doing is correct, 25% of 1440×1080 is 360×270.

If you would like the outputted size to be 480×270, change the frame size in the Dimensions section to Custom (not 25%), then enter in 480×270.

“Adjust Size” should be there. Fourth one down from the top of Tools, below “Adjust Color.” What OS are you working with?

If you don’t have Photoshop (which can do this easily), try Gimp. It’s a free Photoshop clone, https://www.gimp.org.

July 11, 2011 at 11:41 pm in reply to: 4:3 on 16:9 Effect

Personally, I find it this type of effect on news shows and the like to be distracting. Depending on how old the footage you are working with, I find it more visually appealing to just zoom in and crop. Or instead of adding the vertical bars, frame the 4/3 footage in some graphic template and move the 4/3 frame to one side or the other.

When you Export using Quicktime Conversion, select Quicktime as the format. In the Options tab, explicitly change the size to 1920 X 1080. Hope that helps.

In regards to the image size, what you are seeing is correct. Here is some info on DVCPro HD frame sizes.

I agree with above. Depending on the codec of your footage, it may be something your friends computer doesn’t have. In FCP, Export>Using Quicktime Conversion. From there you can make an h264 Quicktime or something else that should be easily playable on other comps.

June 20, 2011 at 2:39 pm in reply to: frame jump

I’ve seen this issue before when your footage codec doesn’t match your sequence codec. Select the item properties of both the clip and the sequence, if the compressor settings are different it could cause your footage to jump during simple effects.

If that is the case, you should be able to change the compressor settings in the “Sequence Settings” tab (select the sequence and press Command-0) to match your footage. While you are there, make sure your editing timebase is the same as your footage. If they differ, create a new sequence with a timebase that matches your footage.

Add your effects and it should render out without the “jump.”

If you still have an issue, go into the Video Processing tab of your Sequence Settings and change the “Motion Filtering Quality” to Best.

    Hope that works for you!

If I can’t find what I’m looking for in-house or from the above sites, sites like sonomic.com or audiomicro.com have a decent selection. Everything is usually under $10.
