You can’t mask out layers below with an adjustment layer. The mask will affect any effects you have on an adjustment layer, but it won’t “remove” the areas in the layers below. Instead of putting your mask on an adjustment layer, put it on a solid and set your layer below to Alpha Matte Inverted.

Since it’s not clear from the link I posted, I should add that this technique is done frame by frame. So draw your mask, set keyframe, move forward one frame, repeat. It usually isn’t more than 15 frames (and often less), so it shouldn’t be too time consuming.

In Premiere, you can keyframe a mask path on the opacity of your clip. I personally would do it in After Effects because I find the masks more precise and a little easier to work with, but it can be done in Premiere if you want to keep it all in one program. If the transition is quick enough, you can sometimes get away with it not being a perfect mask.

Could you clarify what you are looking to do? I can’t quite picture what you described.

The semi-transparent part indicates that your layer has been trimmed. As far as I know, there is no way to remove it. I’m confused as to why you need to, other than for personal aesthetic preference? If you want to start your layer at the playhead without manually dragging, use [ or ] (bracket keys).

Not sure if there is a name for it. It’s a pretty basic animation technique that you can achieve by keyframing shape layers and vector graphics. Although the concept is simple, it takes time and skill to be able to make a slick video like this. I would take a short section and see if you can replicate how it was done. Making the blimp fall on the fork for example. Once you start problem solving ways to do it, you’ll start to get the hang of it.

  • That is a massive comp with a lot of layers. There is no way to significantly speed it up in your current setup unfortunately. Maybe make some proxy layers for cars or the map if you are done animating. That could help a little.

How much camera movement are we talking about? Just a little handheld wobble or actually panning to different parts of the car?

I would guess the softness is coming from the low resolution. Another way to scale down your comp is to precompose your layers and put the precomp in a 288×288 composition, but it will most likely just give you the same results.

You’ll want to use an expression. Here is a previous post on the subject.
