Just a quick heads up that you can save a custom preset in After Effects so you don’t need to keep changing the codec settings every time you export.

If you’re seeing color bars instead of footage, your media is probably offline. Right-click your media file in the Project window, go to Replace File, and find your media to reconnect.

  • You may not have enough RAM to preview your entire video at once. Lower the resolution to half and try it. If you preview it all, then come back later and it’s not all “green” to preview, your computer has likely reallocated some RAM for something else.

  • The video is private…

  • You could probably achieve this with the Element 3D plug-in, which not only does 3D rendering, but also has very powerful particle controls built in.

With Particular you can use a light as an emitter and then keyframe or parent the light to follow the skis. The Bounce and Floor options could also be handy for the snow settling behind the skis.

In Particle World you can parent the producer position to a Null Object and the particles will emit from the Null’s location, but you need to use a expression for it because Particle World calculates position differently than the Null Object. Andrew Kramer did a tutorial on it. Just skip towards the middle where he is setting up his particles.

For the snow impact, you could try some sort of dust or smoke puff stock footage and color correct it to look like snow.

Some say it’s a bug, some say it’s the way it’s supposed to work. Whatever it is, it’s annoying. It’s definitely not just you. I’ve tried to understand it and have adjusted my preview settings, but it just never seems to work the way it should.

There is a button to upload images right above the box where you type your post. Maybe try that. 😉

But with software, 3 years and it’s dead. Move on. Now what’s wrong with that picture?

Video technology is improving too quickly for it to be worth supporting old software. I know it sucks in some ways, but that’s the way the professional editing world is moving.

The question has been answered. You can even look two threads down and see it does not work for someone. I’m sorry it’s not the answer you want, but the fact is if you update your OS, you run the very big risk of losing access to your unsupported software and projects. Even if someone chimes in and says it works for them, that doesn’t mean you are guaranteed the same result.

If you really must try it, I recommend making a Time Machine backup so you can revert back to what you have if need be.
