It’s been happening in After Effects and Premiere for years. There are different explanations for it that may or may not make sense, but usually transcoding the footage seems to solve it.

I believe there is a bug in SureTarget when using CC2014 and above. If you quit After Effects and reopen it, it should work as it is supposed to. That seems to fix it for me anyway.

  • The easiest, most predictable way to control the motion of Particular is to use a light as an Emitter. If you need to follow the path of a Null Object, copy the beginning position of the Null Object onto the light and parent that light to your Null Object.

Otherwise, make sure your Null Object is 3D and pickwhip your Particular emitter’s Z position to the z position of the Null Object.

I’m guessing you need to push your white background layer back in z space. You won’t see shadows if it’s on the same plane as the other layers. Also make sure the Accept Shadows property is on for that layer.

You probably need to color correct it. Maybe mask and feather it too. Post a screenshot shot if you can.

You need to be way more specific. How is your model or fire created, and what do you mean by blend? Do you want to realistically composite something onto a shot, or are you interested in learning about blend modes?

The easing on your Position and x Rotation keyframes is different for each box layer, so they move and rotate at different speeds. Highlight all the keyframes on both layers, hold the command key and click one of them. This will convert them to linear keyframes. Then if you want to ease part of the animation, make sure you apply the same movement to both layers.

  • Knoll Light Factory allows for luminance tracking, which allows you to generate flares from bright spots in your video. It also has obscuration based on alpha or luminance channels. Optical Flares has the same features. Both are much more advanced than the basic flare effect that comes with After Effects.

I would create a solid, mask it to the shape of the back of the airplane while leaving a large solid area behind it (see attached photo). Then either manually track it or motion track it to the movement of the airplane. Use that layer as a track matte for your text. As long as the plane or camera doesn’t move in some crazy way, this should be relatively quick.
