Text Reveal Effect Suggestion or Advice
Posted by Rajarshi Basu on July 7, 2016 at 4:31 pmHi,
I am trying to this effect where, as a plane passes in the sky , a text gets revealed…I have attached the photo…
I want to avoid any roto work if possible and would like a matte workflow…but I cant figure out how.
Any suggestions would be helpful…

Thank you for the suggestion. Yes I conceptually understand it…but are there any tutorials online that shows the production technique or a similar workflow involved ?
Thanks again !

July 7, 2016 at 9:01 pmHow long is the shot? 10 or 15 seconds? Rotobrush [link] would make short work of this. I’ll bet it’s faster than trying to pull a key (especially if the plane crosses clouds).

July 7, 2016 at 11:21 pmIn the time it’s taken you to wait for responses, you could have rotoscoped it and been done already. Sometimes taking three hours to rotoscope is better than taking five hours to learn a way to do a task in one hour.

July 8, 2016 at 1:11 pmI would create a solid, mask it to the shape of the back of the airplane while leaving a large solid area behind it (see attached photo). Then either manually track it or motion track it to the movement of the airplane. Use that layer as a track matte for your text. As long as the plane or camera doesn’t move in some crazy way, this should be relatively quick.
