normally copy-protection could only be set on DDP-images that would go to replication.

if you´ve use copy-protection on a burned DVD, that wont work.

I haven´t burned a DVD using encore, as I am a mac-user and always use DVD Studio Pro for this (it´s got a lot more possibilities), I only use encore for BD-authoring.

so, it might be possible that you created a DVD with copy-protection on a DVD-R with encore. so that could be your main problem!

if copy-protection is selected, that will lead to a different sector-length!

hi,
I would upscal your SD-material using innobits purifier, but you need to know that HDV native resolution is 1440×1080.

so I would upscale your HDV-material to 1920×1080 using purifier as well – maybe I would use the pro-res codec.

then you need to do a frame-rate-conversion to 23.98p. this is quite a bit complex, but I wrote a small tutorial for this.

it´s been another context, but the workflow is the same.

to use apples Cinema Tools is a common workflow for things like this.

hi kriz,
if you are talking about 10clips pro res proxy for multiclip you will have a data-rate at approx. 64MB/s, that should work with SATA-drives or FW800-drives.

I would suspect any of the RT-settings of your project, or maybe you are working with wrong sequenz-settings.

I did a multiclip with XDCAM EX-material and 6 CAMs a few weeks ago – didn´t have any problems.

you can´t create a DVD with encore CS4 that´ll have any copy-protection, so I´m quite sure it´ll be another issue.

if you are talking about a fail-message – how do you try to burn a new DVD in detail? especially if your original files have been stolen?

hi michele,
yes – to author a DL-DVD is an option, if you would like to create a DVD with approx 3h video on the disk.

if you´re using AC-3 audio@192kbit/s this would lead your target-data-rate to 5.8Mbit/s. this is quite good if you are using a VBR encoding.

to send a video-DVD burned on a DVD-DL to replication is no good idea at all. you could get some serious issues by doing this!

another option:

within DVDSP you could create a BOV (butto over video), so you can create an in and an out-effect on your button.

but you need to create 2 of them and you need to create a script to read out the player-configuration to jump to the right menu:

1.) 16:9-letterboxed
2.) 4:3 letterboxed

because dvd-spec have a bug to scale the button-overlays in the correct position if you use BOV, this wont happen if you´re using a menu within DVDSP.

that won be possible with encore – for this you need to goo deep into DVD-specs, but encore is a abstraction-layer-programm (and a very bad one).

you can´t even do scripting with it – that would be possible with DVD Studio.

so, I guess you need to live with it´s results or have a look at another authoring-tools like sonic DVD-creator.

you need to deliver a DDP-Image for (not only) DL-DVD-Replication. this could be done in two ways:

1. DLT-tape
for every layer of your disk a DLT-tape will be written, so the replicator could get every single layers information.

2. DDP-Image on DVD-R (DVD-5)
you need to create a DDP-image using appropiate software like DVD AfterEdit ME (Mac) or Gearmaster Pro (PC). It will create two folders (layer0 and layer1) with the entire information for the two DVD-layers.

if you create a DL-DVD your DVD need to have a valid layerbreak-position. DVD AfterEdit could show you the Nav-Pack, where a layerbreak could be possible if the disk haven´t got a valid layerbreak. I don´t know exactly how you can create it with gearmaster pro as I´m a mac-user, but I know it´s possible, too.

if you finally have created your DDP-image you need to burn the layer 0 and layer 1 folder on a DVD-R (4.7GB). the disk-format needs to be UDF (DVD-ROM) and you should do a backup-copies for the replication, too. this is for security-reason if they might have a problem to read out the data from the disk.

that mean you need to burn 2 x Layer 0, and 2 x Layer 1, and the disks needs be labeled properly.

so you´ll get a replicated DVD-DL.

hi,
if you still want to create a DVD instead of an HD-DVD you need to export your item-description of your entire disk. then open that file using text-edit and change your disk from HD-DVD to DVD.

you need to look for string HD and change it to SD, then save the item-description.

import that item-description into a new dvd-studio-project.

voila.

hey david,
this small pause will always happens as encore don´t create muliple playlists with seamless boundary. that´s only possible with scenarist, bluprint and maybe with dostudio.
