BDMV on DVD-R will be played as AVCHD, it will never be played as blu-ray, as there is a necessary information in the header of the disc-media.

maybe I´ve got a clue…..

if you look at your project-tab, you can change the transcoding-settings on your menus/mov, please look at the column blu-ray-trascode status on your menu-background-mov.

there should be “untranscoded”

if you´re doing a ctrl-click on it, you can select the encoding-settings and change the whole setting.

please try to change it to h264 and 25-28Mbit, so you should have a nice result.

I tested one simple DVD-project that I allready authored with DVD SP, and the result is OK – no miss-calculation at the moment.

my test-DVD ended OK – DVD-calculation OK, and also a BD-project that I tried to reset to DVD (incl. transcoding).

maybe you need to create a new project-file, perhaps it is corrupted.

what transcoding-settings (within the project-settings) did you use for encoding? h264 or MPEG2, and which bitrate did you set your transcoding-settings within encore?

did you use pro res 1920×1080 for your menus? have you looked at your menue on a HD-reference-monitor? are they OK?

encore CS4/5 can handle 1080p23.98, CS5 can handle 24p as well, so you might be able to select, but your video-framerate needs to fit to your encore-transcoding-settings.

hi eric,
CSS and copy protection could only be used with DDP/CMF-images and not be burned on DVD-R as michael have told before.

if you are creating a DDP-image you´ll get one or two folders depending if you´re creating a DVD-5 or DVD-9.

these folders called layer0 and layer1.

burn this folder on DVD-R (4.7GB) using toast under data-Disc (DVD ROM), this will burn a UDF-data-disc. don´t try to burn using finder, because it´ll create a HFS-DVD that have the wrong file-system.

allways create a DUB and label the layers properly, so the replication will have no problem.

Hi Adam,
encore is creating some meta-datas on your assets while you are importing it, so there might be a delay while starting and saving bigger projects.

I´m working with CS5 mac and the import/save/open-time is quite ok, but as you are working with a BD-project the process could take a while.

as you´ve described that you´re working on a disk-set you maybe imported a lot files, and all of them will be loaded even if they are used or not.

so a good idea would be just to leave these files in your disc-project that will be really used. if something else would be needed you can import it again.

normally assets should be transcoded prior authoring, so it would be interested if you just simply import avi/mov-files (untranscoded), or if you´ve transcode it with adobe media encoder or something else.

finally all these processes depending on the speed of your computer as well – fast machine – faster process.

it´s no good idea to use transcoded material for menus within encore, here is the reason why:

even if you are using transcoded material encore will transcode it AGAIN.

so better use your original quicktime-mov for the background and let encore do the transcoding.

encore is a big, big mess – nothing else, but it got better with CS5.

if you allready transcoded your video and audio with compressor that will be ok…

I´ve figured out (with a BD-production) that encore seem to have a bug calculateing the disc-capacity.

haven´t tested this again – wanted to do this a few times…

I´ll do this in the next days – I have enough material for SL and DL-tests, as I created a lot DVDs using DVD Studio.

but here is a question for you – if you are using compressor for transcoding I´m sure that you´ll have DVD Studio as well, why not using it?

it´s a lot better than encore for DVD-authoring.

hi again,
first of all – AAC audio is not allowed for DVD. according to the DVD-specs you can use PCM audio (wav/aif) or dolby digital-audio AC-3 or finally MPEG audio and DTS audio.

as AAC is not allowed, encore will transcode your audio to PCM-audio or dobly digital audio, depending on your transcoding-settings within your project-settings.

you should use dolby AC3, 192kbit/s for your stereo-file.

have you transcode your files using adobe media encoder prior authoring or did you import the AVI/MOV-files into encore?

if this is your workflow – encore will use it´s encoding-settings for transcoding to MPEG2 and the selected audio!

if you used PCM-audio as transcoding-setting, that will lead result in to much data, as PCM audio have 1.500kbit/s data-rate.

so please use media encoder for audio-and video-transcding.
