I am editing a film and several scenes have 10+ clips which I turn into a multiclip. They play fine in the viewer but on the timeline, after each cut, I need to render the full clip. If I have 7 clips or less in a multiclip, I can cut in realtime without the need to render (Timeline turns red). Is this an issue of not enough RAM or is the (external drive…I know…) the issue here. If its a drive issue, any recommendation for a RAID setup (external)? I’d need around 1500gigs in space to handle the feature.

    My specs are:

MAc Pro (2007/2008) quad core 266ghz, 12gig ram, FCP 7. Clips are 1920×1080 prores proxy.

    Thanks for the help

    hi kriz,
if you are talking about 10clips pro res proxy for multiclip you will have a data-rate at approx. 64MB/s, that should work with SATA-drives or FW800-drives.

I would suspect any of the RT-settings of your project, or maybe you are working with wrong sequenz-settings.

I did a multiclip with XDCAM EX-material and 6 CAMs a few weeks ago – didn´t have any problems.

    cheers

10 clips…that’s a LOT of streams of video! Even for ProRes Proxy. You need at least a 2 drive eSATA Raid, like a Caldigit VR, or OWC Mercury Elite.
