why don´t you look for someone who have DVD AE nearby to do this job, if you´re not wiling to pay for it. DVD AE is a very good tool, as you mentioned. I would do it for you if you would live in germany.

you might email larry (the programmer of DVD AE) if he might do the job for you, I know he did a few jobs for customers – give it a try.

in my opinion DVD AE has to be in every DVD-authors tool-list.

Hi,
I would guess you need arround 1 working-day for that (incl. encoding, burning and testing). I normally charge 350-400€ per day. assets-encoding is about 1.70€/min for 1 video + 1 AC3-audio-track.

DVD-Reautoring and working with DVD AfterEdit would be charged differently.

are you sure that these files are valid MPEG2- and WAV-files for DVD?!

which version do you use? CS4 or CS5? how do you create these files?

maybe you messed up your adobe-suite.

I haven´t seen the newer posts as I have been written my post. If you use Gearmaster Pro it should be possible to create a valid layerbreak postion as well.

DVD AE automaticly set the new cell/Nav-Pack/layerbreak position to non seamless, that´s a very nice feature!

you don´t need to calculate it, all valid NAV-packs will be shown. to set a new Nav-Pack for the layerbreak is only only one right-click on the selected NAV-Pack.

wont be a problem to fix with DVD AfterEdit (MAC-application). it could create a valid layerbreak-position on EVERY Cell/Nav-Pack.

I´m a mac-user, so I wont use IMGBurn, but I´ve been told that you can tell it the data-capacity of Layer0, so you´ll get a valid layerbreak-position on DVD+R DL, but it´s a different thing for DDP-images.

my advice: dont give it to replication!

try to find someone nearby that is using DVD AE ME, so he can create the DDP with a valid layerbreakposition for you.

I guess, I can´t do it for you – I´m living in germany.

Hi Andrew,
you wont be able to play any PAL-DVD in others than PAL-countries, so the aswer is YES – there are even more countries that couldn´t play PAL-DVDs, like the US as well.

NTSC-players wont play PAL, but PAL-players would play NTSC-DVDs.

that´s the reason why int. DVD/BD-productions are created with NTSC-framerates, so there is no use to redo your disk with PAL.

I won´t think so – Avid DVD Authoring is nothing more than DVDitHD from Sonic under licence.

I´ve seen, it´s not a good authoring-tool, nor for DVD neither for BD. if you need to create a bit more complex DVD you should use another authoring-tool.

to use an 4 or 8core gives you a lot encoding-power, I´ve seen sonic cinevision doing nearly 50 x realtime on a 2.88Ghz 8core mac pro, that was fantstic.

even Mainconcept Reference can to 25-40 x realtime for SD. give it a try. you can download the demo-version from MC-website with watermark. and sonic cinevision is using MCs source-code for the encoder-engine.

I wouldn´t give a DVD+DL to replication – use DDP-images as they are the common workflow.

you can give them via DLT, DDP on DVD or as FTP-uplaod.

in case there would be something wrong with the delivered master on DVD as VIDEO_TS, the replication-facility ALLWAYS going to say: “authoring-error, not our fault!”

this could happen especially with DVD+DL in general and the layerbreak-position.

I´ve had a few collegues (here in germany) that has been hit by this! be careful allways! or let the replication-facility (or your customer) sign a paper that they are responcable for probles that could happen using Video-DVDs as premaster for replication, if they recommend you to deliver it as VIDEO-DVD.

I´m sure trai forrester or larry applegate would agree with me.
