all assets must be NTSC, that means 720×480 in NSTC-aspec-ratio. if you have some PAL-stuff the best way to go is:

1. deinterlace to PAL 25p
2. conform to 24p
3. encode to NTSC 24p – in fact it will be encoded to 29.98NDF, that means you´ll have 24p with 3:2-pulldown for 29.98.

please keep in mind, that if you have HD interlaced source your NTSC-MPEG2 needs to have the same field-order.

mostly NTSC is lower field first, if you have straight NTSC-material, but if you have interlaced HD-material you need to encode it upper first.

if your DVD should play worldwide, you need to go NTSC, because PAL-video will not be played on NTSC-player, but NTSC will be played on PAL-player and HD wont be played on SD-players.

so your way is NTSC.

you need to have a translated text within your subtitle-track. there is no automatisation for translation within any authoring-tool.

you need to give your subtitle to a translation service so you can get another file back for the other language(s).

could you please tell us, how you will change the video-material to match with 25fps.

will it be conformed to 25fps or will it have the same duration. if it´ll be confomed the best way to go might be to change 29.98NDF to 24fps and then conform it to 25fps, so you´ll only have a 4% speedup, and a 1/2 semi-tone pitch up in the audio.

I would advice to use text-files with the format-conversion, because it´s the most easy way to change the TCs from 29.98 to 25fps.

if you will be sure, your japanees txt wont get in trouble you might better use an image-script.

hey alex,
are you sure everythings fine with your AC-3?

I once had an issue – the aif-input-files haven´t been on the correct sampling-rate of 48Khz.

the result will be bad AC-3-files.

if you had the video-bitrate-to-high-error in DVDSP you have selected a wrong video-setting (much to high video-bitrate) or left some PCM audio in your project.

allways keep in mind to crete a bitbutget first.

encores preview is just a simple preview – to give you an idea what might happen.

if you would like to have a real simulation, you should use a DVD-or BD-player-software

depending on your hardware, system and version of encore, you wont have have full-frame playback within encore.

even on my 8core mac pro it will not work properly.

can you tell us how did you check your encoded AC-3? DVDSP or something else?

I never had any issue with compressor-encoded AC-3. I would suggest to mux your BD, burn it to BD-RE and check it in your standalone-player.

Yes – that´s possible, but you can´t do this with Encore only. You need additional tools for that, for example DVD AfterEdit if you are working on MAC.

you haven´t told us if you are using a standalone DVD-player with HDMI-connector or a BD-player.

mostly you need to set the HDMI-output within the players prior you could see anything through HDMI.

normally there should be no problem as DVD have no AACS-encryption. other possibilty: damaged cable
