There’s little to choose between PhotoJPEG and Animation when both set to 100% or best.

Re PhotoJPEG:

Oh, I didn’t doubt that they were probably re-coding it, I was just pointing out that high quality was possible at considerably lower rates than were being discussed.

Mezzanine for me is 50Mb/s MPEG-2 but I’ll sometimes go to 30Mb/s.

Correct.

I’d also like to point out that H.264 is a highly efficient format and the datarates you are delivering are HUGE for the given content and frame size.

Like I said in previous post, I’ve seen stunning 1080p at less that half that datarate. (But you need to know exactly what you are doing to achieve that).

That said, what the customer wants, the customer gets. (Unless they are totally wrong or way off the mark)

Do you use CBR or VBR rate control?

Simply put, your content didn’t require anymore than 6.5Mb/s. The only way to ensure a datarate is to use an I-Frame only format, otherwise known as ‘constrained’

You can’t

By Zipping it, you are likely to increase the file size not reduce it.

If you want to get the VOB smaller you’ll need to transcode it, and that will reduce the quality.

It’s possible it could be compressor if you have mixed interlace and progressive content and didn’t apply a deinterlace control.

By the looks of it both animation and video are progressive?

I’d really need to know detailed information on your AE comp settings, your FCP sequence settings and your compressor settings before I could make a final call.
