H.264 is a delivery codec not an intermediate codec. Do not use it for media that needs to be re-edited.

If you think the only way is with H.264, then you’ll have to send the audio separately.

Hi Alex!

As long as you export using ‘sequence settings’ there is no further re-compression whether you choose self contained or not.

My preference is to export not self-contained as it’s much quicker and saves on disc space. Then drop that file on compressor.

A .mov is just a container, asking for a .mov without specifying what codec to use is like asking half a question.

There’s no point whatsoever is trying to guess, just ask him what type of .mov he wants.

What sort of 4 channel?

Do you want the viewer to be able to select from one of two stereo tracks (different languages for example) or…?

Actually, H.264 refers to the video element of the MPEG-4/AVC standard.

AAC is the the audio side of things and yes, it supports multichannel audio. (Think BluRay movie titles)

No it can’t. I’m not sure if Episode or any other Mac application can.

CarbonCoder from Rhozet can deal with that easily though.

There’s a bunch of stuff on Adaptive details out on Google. Use it for DVD but not for web.

I wouldn’t mess with GOP for PAL unless you have a specific device that needs a GOP shorter than 12.

It’s probably due to the GPL, the open source licensing laws. If Sorenson allowed x264 to work within their application then they’d have to give up all their source code to the Open source community.

Seeing as Apple don’t charge for Quicktime and they make most of it available as source codec, the same does not apply.
