Apple usually ask for 640×480 15Mb/s MPEG-2 – They do the ‘proper’ encoding at their end.
Everybody I know who supplies iTunes with content has received detailed instructions, not only on the specification of the videos they wish to receive but also how they should be delivered.

You didn’t say how you were going from FCP to compressor?
If time is tight you could take the exported sequence (as a Quicktime movie) directly into DVD SP and encode it there.

$250 gets you Flash 8 support only
$450 gets you Flash 7, 8 & 9, plus every major format out there, and, as I said before, much a much more powerful toolset and potentially much higher quality output.Think of it this way – when you want to move to doing H.264 Flash, Flix will be useless, Episode does both VP6 an H.264. And a WHOLE bunch more.

OK, a couple of things.
1. Never upscale unless you positively absolutely have to. You don’t. If you have to upscale use only very high quality (i.e expensive) methods.
2. Deinterlace – the ‘pixelation’ you refer to is in fact interlacing artifacts, not pixelation. You either haven’t applied a deinterlace filter or haven’t set it correctly.
3.Correct your aspect ratio – you have stretched your footage slightly horizontally, probably in the process of cropping out the black bars.
My advice to you, considering your content is ‘talking head’. Shoot 4:3 and deliver 4:3. Why give yourself a hard time? Move to 16:9 when you have a decent HD camera

Episode handles all the formats, anything in anything out. It has a far more advanced set of tools to deal with preprocessing like scaling and deinterlacing and is much easier to use. I’ve used both and it’s a no- brainer. . Episode rules on the Mac.

Do yourself a big favor and buy Epidode instead. Better than Flix and far more useful.

Actually the monitors I use can be set to display 4:3 as-is, but obviously with pillarboxing. No loss of picture at all.

What kind of monitor is it? Most can be set to not change the aspect ratio is thats the problem.
