Yes, I’ve done it plenty of times and the quality has been as good as could be expected.
Quality is subjective and firmly based on the quality of your source, whatever that is.
The basic settings you need are determined by a mathematical calculation. Amount of space available and the amount of stuff you have.
When you say “I have a two hour .mov file” it’s about as useful as saying “I have a 2 gallon plastic bag” – I need to know what’s in your plastic bag. A .MOV can be made up of any one of 30 or 40 different codecs, if not more each of those codecs could be at anything between 100Kb/s to 100Mb/s

Ok, so you didn’t provide any details….so I can’t really help, but no, WMV is far higher quality than Sorenson Spark (Flash 7)

I actually gave up using compressor after getting fed up with its strange behavior. That said, the best method is NOT to use Export to compressor but to export to a Quicktime movie instead (using the same settings as the sequence, so there is no loss in quality).

Personally I’d use After Effects and use either the Animation codec or probably a better choice would be the PhotoJPEG codec set to 100% quality.
Of course much will depend on what your Blu Ray authoring package or facility accepts.
Ultimately it will be converted to H.264 or VC-1 or MPEG-2

Did this uncompress my footage?
No, it simply converted it and wrapped it into a less compression efficient AVI format. It didn’t add any quality it just made the file(s) bigger.
A pointless exercise.You don’t mention what editing system you are using, but most NLEs will work with a couple of their own codecs better than the camera codecs. For example if you use FCP then you might want to capture your HDV into the Apple ProRes Codec.. If you use Avid you might want to do the same using the DNxHD codecs.
The highest quality version is the one on the tape. It’s worth converting to one of the above codecs if you plan on doing any complex edits, composites etc.

If you are limited by output format and datarate the only way you can usefully improve the quality is to use higher quality source. Flash 7 is Flash 7 – there is no alternative.
That said. we might be able to tweak your quality level if you provide us details of what encoders you use, what source you use and what settings you currently use.

On2 make Flix.
On2 is a Flash codec
On2 license the same codec and libraries to 3rd parties including Telestream/Episode.
None of the Flix desktop software packages are ‘great apps’ by a long chalk.
Episode is a superior encoding product that includes the same libraries and codec as Flix.
Even if Episode only did On2 Flash output it would still eat Flix for breakfast
I’m not sure how many different ways you need to hear that Episode is MUCH better than Flix!!!

Look at Viewcast Osprey cards. I rate Viewcast products quite highly.
Digital Rapids is another great option but probably complete overkill.
There are other options out there but I couldn’t personally recommend them.
