If you or anyone else is interested in how this panned out:

After some discussion with the broadcaster and their studio (same company) they asked for both, a 23.976 HDCAMSR for archiving AND a 29.97 HDCAMSR master for broadcast. haha … the post house is probably cursing me for “enlightening” the broadcaster.

Interesting David, thanks for bringing this to my (our?) attention. Makes me slightly less worried about buying a macbook pro without an express slot for eSATA.

  • I’ve never used soundtrack pro for round tripping so take my advice with a grain of salt, but I know that if you use motion project files or livetype project files, the media manager will NOT copy/move all the necessary files.

Thank about it this way — the media manager is only going to move your soundtrack pro “project file” – but not any files that the project file is linking to. (side note: YES, serious flaw – thumbs DOWN FCP team!)

Solution: Can’t use media manager unless you render out AIFFs of your soundtrack pro work. OR – just manually copy over all the files that sountrack pro needs after the media manage is done.

    April 6, 2010 at 8:36 pm in reply to: XDCAM422 59.94P (23.98p) footage

Thanks for the response Wayne. Without getting too off topic, the project will see life in various sources (NTSC/PAL/Internet/DVD) and heavily relies on animation that is integrated with picture, which is being done at 23.98. Whether I personally like 24P, 30P, 60P, etc, is not the part of the equation. This is footage that has already been shot for the show and unfortunately was given to us in this less-than-ideal format. We would really like to stick to our plan to editing at 23.98 – as we do with all our animated TV shows. Hence the question if a solid workflow exists to get rid of extraneous frames in this 720p/59.94p (23.98p) format.

    Thanks for the responses guys.

I have indeed solved the mystery and gotten the “fast import” dialog box to display. Imports are faster now and I am happy.

  • No, not using FCS. Would using FCS enable those options I listed?
