[Ricardo Marty] “Wonder what’s happening in the minds of the powers that be at adobe or avid?”

We are learning to edit on Resolve, that’s what.

I tried it this morning. It’s finally fast enough to “edit” for real on my laptop.

And when are you going to update your blog to “Little Frog in 4K” ???? ?

I too am beginning to consider the fact that Apple computers may simply not be an ideal video editing solution for anything but FCPX. Just like you, however, I’ve spent some time refining my FCPX editing chops, mostly just for enjoyment sake.

    Not FCPX related but —

I`ll be picking up the Izotope RX plugin pack. Its`so cheap, and so good for all kinds of audio fixes.

Next stop, Baselight 5.0 (for Avid). The documentation looks amazing. I just want to see the demo. I`ll punk down the credit card as soon as it`s available, most likely.

XDCAM 422 with MOV wrapper is mac-only.

Ask them if an MXF file is acceptable instead. It probably is.

Just be aware that Avid will split out the XDCAM422 MXF with 8 discrete audio channels, exactly like your first 8 channels on your timeline (stereo tracks don’t count – you have to split them into dual mono). So you’ll need create mixdowns and organize the tracks as per your broadcasters specs first.

Baselight is awesome. We use it for some very high-end commercial work inside Media Composer. 99% of the time we can rival anything created in a standalone Davinci environment.

[Shawn Miller] “On the projects where you used it, did you work with a colorist at all?”

Nope, I do all the post: ingest, edit, color/FX, output to air.

Ah, I see. I was hoping to get some insight into the specific kinds of effects you were doing, e.g., blemish removal or object removal/replacement. I don’t use NLE’s for compositing or effects anymore (not since Vegas 3.0), even when I probably could. But that’s mostly because I’m more comfortable using other tools for those purposes. It makes me wonder how much you can actually do in an NLE now.”

Oh yes, blemish removal, general wrinkle softening, extra whitening of the eyes, that sort of stuff. That is all done inside Baselight AVX.
