Oh man, it’s been almost 2 years since I made that post. Brings back memories.

The “make clips independent” is the supposed to be the factor that turns this sequence offline, while keeping the other online. I am not sure why this isn’t working for you.

There is also another solution using a paid product, TitleExchangePro. I ended up switching to that soon after using this method. It’s a bit more of an elegant solution.

Lastly, I will admit that I switched to Avid a couple months after this I haven’t looked back. I mention this because this feature, if it’s important to you, is something that’s built directly into Avid’s timecode generator. You wouldn’t believe my relief when I found that out.

Have you given read/write permissions to your MacHD drive? If not, give it a try.

On your system drive > right click > get info —
unlock via the padlock icon on bottom right and enter your password
hit the “+” button to add a new permission
Select your specific user account that you are logged into when using MC
then choose to give that user read/write

May or may not help… not an expert but I have seen this warning on Avid forums.

MC does 16bit, not 32bit float.

OpenCL on macbook pros works already… trust me ^^

  • By the way Dennis I…ugh… ‘came across’ that CS6 trial that was floating around the RED forums. Amazing.

I’ve seen hints of the coming Ppro wave into TV.

Last month I was asked to edit my first TV half-hour in Premiere Pro. It was a bumpy ride which I posted about in the Ppro forum, ultimately converting to Avid before the final week of fine-cutting.

However, I remain convinced that Ppro “can do the job” for the most part. I think CS6 will be the first version that, if works as advertised, gives a legitimate choice against Avid. I don’t think it will unseat Avid as the market leader, but have some kind of a presence at least.

[Chris Tomberlin] “I just tried what I was asking about in Premiere CS5 and it handles the scaling properly. It’s really curious how AVID is clearly “more professional” in many ways and yet clearly flawed in others.

Will AVID continue to listen to it’s customers or stop after we all abandon FCP ??”

yeah it’s a drag, but sort of a doubled edged sword. Ever tried doing a camera move on a low rez proxy in Premiere/FCP, and then relink/uprez later? Anyways, the moves will be off, and you’ll have to redo them because of this resolution independence thing. The reason Avid can change resolutions and accurately replicate any camera moves is because of these ‘baked in’ rules about resolution.

Not really defending it, as it irks me just the same at times, just showing you the flip side, which has equally caused me headaches while working as an assistant in FCP.

In short, there is no way to do that you want to do in Avid without losing quality. It will force everything to be visualized at 720p upon import, no exceptions.

I hate to say it, but this is just one of those obvious flaws that I hope they work on one day.

The meme is based on an old advertising campaign, where the man pictured usually gives quirky but correct advice, in some kind of comical way. The advise is usually geared towards younger generations, basically trying to show a wiser, more successful man teaching his underlings.

Anyway, you can probably see why I thought of this scenario when you likened the editor-FCPX relationship to a game. Kind of true.

haha, it’s an internet meme – and I did a poor job at conveying it. Rest assured it’s meant to be a subtle cheer-on.
