Well I have tried that too I must be missing something obvious to everyone else. I ended up buying both Barry Greens book and the Bootcamp DVD to try and figure out what that is.

    Thank for trying…

The iris is set to auto as I cannot lock in a setting due to going from land – sky – land – sky (recording moving RC helicopters). Example video 1 minute in. If I was on a standard shoot yes I could lock everything in.

  • A G4? I would not due to the speed but if you have the will…

Yes hookup firewire to the camera.

You do not “need” slots but it would be easier.

The process is, if you Have Final Cut Studio, is to hook up the camera and hit log and transfer. Final Cut 5 was similar but not as nice.

You do not need an “additional card reader” but the P2 cards only hold so much data. 8-32 minutes depending. P2 card run $800+ and you need 2 of them minimum.

I would never hook my camera to a external FW device but that’s me.

October 18, 2007 at 9:25 am in reply to: 720p vs 720pn REAL differences

O.K. I understand that for 24p… It makes sense. So for 720/30pn would I have to drop a frame when making DVD’s and the like? I assume compressor would just take care of that for me on the “down rez” (if that is the right word)???

Let me give you the scenario and see if this helps. I shoot a lot of video that, most of which goes to the web. I USED TO convert my cheap 1080i footage to a progressive Windows or Quicktime encode. Converting the 1080i to 480i for a DVD no problem. Now… I will be shooting everything in 720pn and using about the same exports for the web. No problem there either. My concern was being that 720pn is well th ‘n’ that I would not be able to do a good conversion to SD (to make DVD’s) if I lost the pulldown ability. Does that make sense?

The DV25 seemed to work but Apple said the their PDF “480i 60/480p 30 DV-NTSC or DV50-NTSC ”

Thanks looking forward to the P2 cards!!!

Well I did find the Apple Workflow and suggestions for “ingesting” the footage.

I switched to using the “Easy Setup” DV50 – NTSC

But now it says “Capture encountered a problem This could be due to a problem on the tape…” after recording about 3 seconds. It was a new tape and looks fine when playing on the camera.

The camera is attached to my PPC Quad with a FW cable to the front panel.

Not that I have found. Nor a fix for the artifacts I pick up on a 2 pass VBR encode.
