I edit for all kinds of clients on Premiere Pro on my laptop. Now most of what I am working with is DV but I find that it is not really necessary to have an extremely quick laptop either. That’s becaue I edit with the client but RENDER back at the office using an external drive. If you don’t have to deliver a finished product right away this works like a charm and really impresses clients.

Try these 2 items which have worked for me in PP3
Make sure you pre-render on the timeline (I know that’s a no-brainer but sometimes we forget.
Render the Audio separately from the video. I don’t know why the second one works but it does.

Walter thank you for all the time you spend helping people here it is much appreciated. The post here runs in stark contrast to your blog which appears to be very Encore-Friendly. Is there something about your previous projects which allowed them to bypass the menu difficulties which you are now having.
On a personal note I have been approached to get into Blu Ray authoring for duplication for a small series of specialty projects.
Should I tell them that my Encore-Pioneer burner combination will only produce straight play (no menus) projects?If not what was the limit on the number of buttons your previously successful projects had?

As long as I have been hanging around at the cow questions about ripping DVD’s have elicited nothing but scorn and sometimes rage. I would, however, like to mention that I am a busy DVD author who regularly has to legally rip DVD’s for re-authoring for many major clients. The names of many of these companies who don’t offer access to original footage for creating re-releases is something which has always amazed me.
This may not be normal but it does happen to me a lot and I suspect I am not alone.

Ron is something wrong. Last week I went to the article on “Windows on a mac” and you were tearing a strip off of someone, implying they were an idiot and telling them to “remind me to never listen to snything you have to say again”. This week I come to this forum and you’re doing the same thing. Gee, I’d almost think you’re missing your yearly trip to Vegas (NAB). You know there are other ways to have a vacation. In the immortal words of my teenage son…chill man;.)

Bryce I can 100% relate. The only suggestion I have is to start creating our own projects and finding markets for them. Although this is difficult when you are marketing-challenged as i am.

When I read the specs on the camera it didn’t mention an interlaced setting. I guess I should have assumed that.
I know that sounds stupid…..mostly because it is I guess.

Don’t sell yourself short. The only reaon we freelancers get called in at all is because we are a source of new ideas and
approaches. So while it may not appear as though we are necessary the client has a legitimate reason to call. (I hope)
