We rented one of these, and it wouldn’t output 24p.
I thought that the AJ-HD1700 was the only deck that would output 1080/24p directly from 720/24p recorded on the Varicam? The 150 is 720p/60 with a 2:3 pulldown isn’t it?

The AJ-HD150 does not support the Varicam and 24p however.

The “control track” is broken and there is a glitch with a crash edit.

Actually, you need an “optional” card AJ-YA120AG card before the unit records at all!

No. The 1200 is not an editor. It does have an “auto back” setting in the setup menu – when enabled you can press REC while holding down the PLAY button and it will do more than a crash record, but not as clean as a true assemble.

The Kona2 does real-time upconversion (and downconversion), but I thought the Decklink HD Pro only did downconversion. I may be missing something.

Alchemist from Snell & Wilcox is probably the best hardware solution.

Export your 29.97 EDL from your timeline in FCP by clicking on the timeline and then choosing FILE–>EXPORT–>EDL. Now open the EDL in Cinema Tools and choose EXPORT–>CONVERTED EDL–>23.98 from 29.97. Now import the new EDL in FCP and recapture your footage.
