Panasonic AJ-HD1200A assemble edit ?
Posted by Bob Zelin on April 30, 2005 at 9:55 pmSorry for the OT – I can’t find this in the archives.
Does the Panasonic AJ-HD1200A do an assemble edit, or just crash record?
Thanks –

May 2, 2005 at 2:51 amNo. The 1200 is not an editor. It does have an “auto back” setting in the setup menu – when enabled you can press REC while holding down the PLAY button and it will do more than a crash record, but not as clean as a true assemble.

As you have suspected, the Panasonic AJ-HD1200A does not support assemble edit. Some older DVCPRO HD decks did support assemble edit, eg the AJ-HD150.

May 2, 2005 at 5:36 pmWow, that’s good to know. I was wondering why the deck is so “cheap” (if you call $20k US cheap).

May 2, 2005 at 8:22 pmActually, you need an “optional” card AJ-YA120AG card before the unit records at all!

May 2, 2005 at 8:24 pmThe “control track” is broken and there is a glitch with a crash edit.

May 2, 2005 at 8:38 pmWhat do you mean by, “The AJ-HD150 does not support the Varicam and 24p however.”
We use the 150 daily with VariCam material shot at 24p and have been doing so for years. It’s actually a fabulous machine, a full editing deck.

May 2, 2005 at 9:39 pmWhat deck would that be?
All Panasonic DVCPro HD decks handle VariCam 24p material.
