    hi…
thanks for your reply… when u say it gets to a point and crashes. could you measure where that point might be?

I guess to paint a picture is that our biggest project had 15 hrs of footage for a 40 minute programme… not the best ratio! but that kind of thing could be likely again- is this at that point do you think?

    Regards, Dale…

January 9, 2007 at 12:32 am in reply to: Adding grain in Avid Xpress

There is an effect in Illusion FX which comes with express pro called film grain. it looks fantastic on its minimal settings.

if u really wanna get the film look going colour correct with the colour wheels in the mid tones moving around to a bluish or yellowish look. i also do a fluid film effect to give it that progressive look first and then it all looks sensational. the fluid film effect doesn’t work with other effects so do that first then do a mixdown of the clip and you can do whatever you want.

or you could look at getting magic bullet it does heaps of stuff i love the post contrast quality.

So if I was to digitise about 10 hrs to dvc pro hd ( as i did today in DV – my cameraman overshoots!) I may need a truckload or two of space right?

im not sure if you wanna deinterlace or interlace- here’s both ooptions for you. i’m doing it slightly from memory- haven’t authored in a couple of weeks and the compter is in for a service!

export as qt ref, open in sorenson… go to the SPANNER menu… for intelaced version select NONE
    for deinterlaced ‘AUTO REMOVE INTERLACE”

THATS IT… im pretty sure this is right. good luck i know how u feel mate!!!

its true that encore doesn’t like qt refs but if you can’t export the file as a qt movie out of
avid because of the 2gig limit you can export the qt ref out BUT make sure that you don’t have any black spaces in your time line in avid… if you fade to black or have black at head or tail replace it with a shot and colour correct it to black then go qt ref… you might see tho that it won’t letterbox down to 4:3 if its a 16:9 dvd. which can be a prob. don’t know if this is the answer u need… i’ll reread you q

the menu which i made in encore to go with the movie DOES letterbox so its some kind of other problem. i am thinking of maybe trying so come of other encoding software like pro coder. i just don’t like sorenson.

I think i read in the manual a while ago that you have to come out to a DLT deck first to do a dual layered disc- i think! so it maybe something to with that but i am not for sure… check the book perhaps

November 23, 2005 at 12:28 pm in reply to: qtmovie vs omf

    Hi Enzo…

That does sound like a good way to do it i had considered it but wasn’t sure of the workaround. its so easy when you explain it. I am just playing at the moment its not for any project. what i am still wondering is if i upgrade to pro AE instead of standard i can use OMF files instead of qt files… what i am really wondering is will that mean i don’t have to worry about compression at all then as its just a straight omf file.

    Thanks for the reply!
