hard drive requirements for capturing HDV as DVCPRO hd
Posted by Dale on July 10, 2006 at 1:05 pmJust reading around about capturing HDV as DVC PRo HD (Via Component I assume). What does this mean for drive space? I assume it means its gonna take up a fair bit more… am I right? BTW how much in terms of GB is 1 minute of DVC Pro HD- relating to HDV still.

July 10, 2006 at 1:16 pmDVCPro HD 60 is approx. 14mb/sec. DVCPro HD 24 is approx. 4mb/sec.

Not sure what you consider a truckload. I run 4+ TB of storage here. 10hours of DVCPro HD would fit onto one of our Firewire 800 drives.

Download the free “Drivespace” widget from Digital Heaven. It takes all the guess work of these type of computations. Its something that every editor should have. Just plugin the video format and the estimated running time of all your captures, and Drivespace will compute the hard drive space required.
