Thanks for your input! I’ll give that a try. In the meantime I switched to the Boris Plug-in and it works much faster and looks fine. However, no logos! (Yet anyway!)

October 16, 2006 at 3:59 pm in reply to: What is a ‘General error 41’?

Thank you for those who responded to my plight. As it turns out, I in-fact was not using FCP version 5.1.2 rather the 5.0 version. As it also turns out – you must upgrade from V5.0 to V5.1 by sending in $100USD and your FCP install disk directly to Apple. They will in turn send you the 5.1 upgrade. Then you can download the 5.1.2 update. As I did the research, I soon discovered that no authorised MAC/APPLE dealer was able to supply my with the upgrade – this is something that comes from APPLE directly – so plan ahead, and save youselves the the $1,500 for a brand new copy of 5.1 from the retailer! (As I ultimatly had to do, given my tight time restrictions!)
    Cheers,

March 26, 2006 at 8:53 pm in reply to: HDV & Text

Yes I do have a SD NTSC broadcast quality monitor, but I’ve been viewing the HDV images on my Cinema HD Display monitor. I was hoping to project this image as an HDV images onto a 11 X 20 foot screen, therefore text resolution in an HDV format is important.

December 19, 2005 at 2:52 pm in reply to: Output Problems…

I’m using the Kona 2 card. Up until the day before yesterday, there was no problem, but now… I quit early yesterday, because I was so frustrated. I’m at it again this morning… When I play the timeline – no problem. When I “print to tape” no problem. It’s when I want to insert edit and use the record canvas to control the deck and set the in and outs, the output is garbled and everything grinds to a halt.

    Hmmmm.

December 18, 2005 at 5:58 pm in reply to: anyone using Huge Systems FC Raids?

I have one. At first it was slow to be recognized by the system. My friend also bought one and complained of the same thing. Then, I had a crash which resulted in my having to send the drive back to the Huge Corp. They replaced the controllers, (I think)with a newer version and now the system works must snappier. I’m still reserving an overall judgement, but the company did respond quickly to help get me up and running again. And they saved my data!

November 20, 2005 at 11:58 pm in reply to: Suffering from compression blues…

I’ve assigned each track it’s own number and am trying to export aif files. I establish my in and out and go to file export option, name the rfile and hit return. A dialoge box comes up and the first track exports OK. The second track also seems to export but just as it’s going to the next track I get a General Error message. I’ve tried isolating tracks, but it always seems to want to export all the tracks. I’ve tried shift drive destinations, but the results are the same. Any ideas.

November 20, 2005 at 9:54 pm in reply to: Closed Captioning

As someone who runs a business providing closed captioning services – I can assure you in the long run, it’s probably better to have someone do it for you. If you are mastering onto Digibeta you don’t lose a generation in the captioning encoding process. If you’re mastering onto beta SP your only option is a composite (yes composite!) dub onto a new master which would then contain the closed captioning signel information. Quite complex actually and getting more so with HDTV. Unless you’re doing masses of captioning, best to just add the fees to the budget. You’ll be surprised when you’re adding up the expenses to find that captioning is one of the least expensive areas of production.

    Thanks Shane,
Something so simple solved the problem. Now what can you say about general errors while exporting AIF audio files?
