Thanks for your very reasonable reply, Tom.

If you have a question about a specific post, by all means use the “Contact Us” link in the upper right to ask about it. It could be something that seems benign — a TinyURL, the word “specialist” – that gets sucked up into our mechanism because we’ve seen so many instances of it being used for bad things. We really are a small team with a lot to manage.

And dude, you’re a drummer in a weird band? Here at the Cow, we are ALL ABOUT drummers in weird bands…and weird drummers in general. Right Ron? 🙂

I think you’re right that this is a big deal — howzabout dealing with it in the Broadcast Video forum? A lot of deck talk there.

One way to start drumming up conversation is to write an article — even if it’s just a list of problems so far. Then tell people where they can go to help you. 🙂

    Thoughts?

[Chris Blair] “As to the original posts creative solutions at collecting…I wish I had a woman on staff with that much gumption!”

You don’t need to be a woman to pull those off, not by any means. Just that being a woman adds another dimension to The Nuclear Option. The trick when talking to the wife of the deadbeat if you’re a man is to NOT treat the deadbeat’s wife as a peer — which a woman collector can. The play for a man is one of supplication and gratitude, which you should all be used to by now.

But my point in this thread wasn’t to extend sympathy for the truly hard up. Yeah, you have to extend leniency or write those debts off like any of their other creditors. And you definitely have to get used to the idea that bigger creditors might indeed wind up getting some or all of their money while you might get none. That’s the way it goes, and it’s not worth getting your stomach in knots over. No matter how good the intent of somebody going into a deal, things happen. Depending on the client, you may even be able to sit down to a meal together and commiserate.

I started this thread thinking about clients who are just being dicks. 🙂

[Mike Cohen] “Here are some examples of corporate work I have done just in the past year:”

Well there you go. The issue of the magazine I just mentioned has a GREAT article by Mike in it. I only left it out because I was thinking of the videos his company sells to doctors — a commercial video project rather than corporate. I was thinking much too small….

…which is often the case. As I say in my introduction to that issue, anyone looking for the widest opportunity, the best client relationships, and quite often the biggest paydays when compared to broadcast and traditional post — corporate is the way to go.

    Thanks for the reminder, Mike!

We devoted an entire issue of the Cow Magazine to Non-Broadcast Video. M variations on corporate video:

**an orientation film for the 3,500 employees at Wembley Stadium
**in-house video for Elvis Presley Enterprises (archiving, sales, training)
**production for the Atlanta Braves: stadium displays and marketing

We also have an article on real estate video called “We Don’t Do Real Estate Video.” The writer is a corporate video guy who got sucked into doing a couple of real estate videos on very interesting properties, with clients who wanted something creative. So the author treated it like a corporate video.

So not exactly an issue to wave at your “who needs corporate video” boo-bird, but a truly inspiring set of stories with very specific examples of relevance.

A free download….and you should subscribe if you’re not.

    Here’s the PDF.

Here are other issues. If you haven’t taken a look, you’ll be flabbergasted. Amazing stories, all written by Cows. There’s really never been anything like this before in our industry.

    Here’s where to sign up.

In almost every case, no, especially if it’s tied into a thread.

That said, we have turned off threads that violate our terms of service…but even then, it’s critical to note: once it has been sucked up into Google, it’s there forever. Believe me, we’ve tried to talk to them about this, but they’re not even vaguely sympathetic.

So unless you can point us to a thread that specifically violates our terms, it’s not going anywhere. (Please see the upper right corner for the About Us link, which will take you to the Terms of Service, as well as the Contact Us form to write us offline.)

And again, please note, it’s in Google until Google goes dark. We have no control over that.

[Aharon Rabinowitz] “Also, if you really want to say thanks, checks can be made out to The Aharon Rabinowitz Fund for Children Desperately in Need of Home Theaters with Dolby Surround Sound. It’s a little known organization, but a worthy cause that I stand behind 100%.”

An outstanding organization that we also highly recommend.

Seriously though, if you’d like to say thanks, please check out Aharon’s Creative Cow Master Series DVDs in the Cow Dairy Store. Just can also follow the “DVD” link in the orange nav bar at the top of this page.

You may THINK you’ve seen all of Aharon’s podcasts and tutorials, but I can all but guarantee you haven’t. After Effects: The Next Level contains the first **six hours** of Aharon’s tutorials, in their full-size glory PLUS the project files.

After Effects: The Next Level vol. 2 contains the next FIVE hours of Aharon’s tutorials with project files…PLUS 78 minutes of never-before-seen tutorials, building on new features found in CS3, obviously very much applicable to CS4 as well.

Last but not least, the best-selling Master Series DVD yet on creating and distributing web video, podcasts, video tutorials, and much more, Internet Killed the Video Star.

As you can imagine, these are really truly among the best disks you’ll ever see. At the very least, you need to visit the product pages for those disks, which also contain some especially clever promos.

This is a great way for you to develop your chops, have some fun, and support one of the industry’s very nicest guys. And of course, a nice way to say thanks. Take a look!

    And thanks again, Aharon!
