Read your blog entry and I have to say I couldn’t agree less. As an occasional da Vinci 2k operator and more colorist than editor, I’m ecstatic about the addition of Color. I don’t understand the argument against the democratization of media tools. Talent will always prevail and Walter, you’ve shown you have talent. I’m hoping this just isn’t a case of sour grapes. I’ll stop by AJA today and say hello.

G Super Levels from Graeme Nattress does exactly what you want. It’s included in his Big Box of Tricks for a hunnert bucks. Excellent tool!

Start here https://www.finalcolor.com/
Search Amazon, there are a jillion color titles to wade through. For the engineering that you should learn, start here https://www.poynton.com/Poynton-color.html
Videotek and Tektronix have white papers on their respective sites on this topic and how to read scopes.
Also, search the forum here, the question comes up somewhat frequently.

Many thanks, Richard!!!
Reading that sparked the noggin to life and the procedure worked as slick as I remember.

thanks, chris.
i ended up doing this in motion.

i do this with my canon G3 camera and the .avi files it makes.
final cut pro will not create 15fps sequences (t’would be nice if it did). use quicktime pro and export a conversion to something fcp can use with no effort. i usually convert these to 75% photojpeg files at 30fps. you also need to convert the audio and i use 48k.
create a custom sequence setting with fcp for the file dimensions and video compressor and edit away. easy. you can also use compressor to accomplish the same conversion.

i’ll echo bogiesan’s sentiments. 18 months ago i was brand new to after effects. upon great recommendations i bought the meyer’s books and procured total training for AE 6 (i have 6.5 pro). i also bought “AE On the Spot” in order to teach myself.
AE manual, Total Training, On The Spot, deconstructing online reels; the main method i’ve been learning from. as a beginner, i got nothing out of the meyer’s books. i’m still a beginner but now i can create camera and light moves on animations and to be honest, those meyer’s books didn’t help with my self-education. talented folks and authors to be sure but as a beginner to a beginner, i would not recommend them…yet.

All right, everyone line up to slap me upside the head.
I had activated draft 3d yesterday and forgot to turn it off early this morning. There it was staring me right in the face.

Wow, Walter.
That’s kinda harsh. Granted not everyone at Apple has your level of expertise, there’s still a lot of great information being presented. Everyone has to learn sometime and yes it does get tiring seeing the same questions come up again and again but then I don’t look at those if I don’t want to. I saw you over there not long ago and was pretty thrilled knowing that a lot of users, myself included, could gain from your knowledge and help.
Personally, I read the cow but I rarely post as I find the format to be extremely cumbersome, I find the Apple discussions to be really user friendly.
