Not just 15 ways. But a work flow that will give you very decent quality standard def DVDs from your timeline. Worth learning. Macs used to not be able to burn +R DVDs. PCs used them, so I’m surprised a consumer player can’t read them.

Zane, is that 10-20 percent or gigs? I’ve always read that the media or any drive should be left no more than 80 percent full. But drives have gotten so big that there is now a huge difference between 20 gigs and 20 percent. Just wondering if that advice has been updated to gigs.

Most of my poor experience mixing these brands has been Canon shot footage not playing back in sync with a Sony deck or cam. But I have heard a lot of reports about the two brands not working well together. Canon cams are known to have heads that get out of alignment. But it can happen to any camcorder and if this is the problem then your best bet is to use the exact cam that shot the footage. I’ve also been told, but I have no direct knowledge, that Canon uses a slightly different standard for firewire. Either way, if you are getting messed up audio and you know it played fine on the original cam, try a different deck. As long as you are renting, might as well go for a dsr11 or any sony deck unless you think the pd150 was out of alignment. Another way to go is to buy a small sony cam to use as a deck.

Canon often doesn’t play well with Sony shot video and vice versa. USB is not a media drive though you might get away with it for short SD clips. I would stay with the PD150 so you don’t run into sync problems. If you are trying to save the heads and transport on the pd150, then just “capture now” the whole tape rather than trying to use it as a log and capture deck.

there are a lot of choices within it but it will teach you how to capture with that camera.

the cable to use is a standard firewire cable used with most of the dv/hdv mini cams. doesn’t matter if it is 800 or 400 aside from needing the right size plug on the computer end.

connect the cam and be ready to start playing fro capture before loading FCP.

Were you using your system drive to store some of this media? If so, bad idea. Before matters get worse, boot from another drive or even the original install disc and back up your user account and whatever else can’t be replaced. Then as was suggested, complete the trashing. When you are ready, wipe both drives clean, reformat, do a clean install of the OS and then reinstall your apps. Disk Warrior might help restore order if the data is not readable.

In the future, always give FCP ample room on the media drive. Store your project files on your system drive and all media and renders and so forth on your media drive. It’s also not a bad practice to backup important media files and reformat the media drive to keep it clean. You might want to invest in an external raid to use as a media drive.

Are you saying the enclosure died or the raid got corrupted? How old are these? Drives are pretty cheap.
How big is your original system drive?

You can get a brand new 1 gig drive for under $100.

Yes. With CCC clone your drive to another. Internal or external. Then you can boot from the clone by selecting it as the startup disk in system preferences. Or you can just swap out the old drive for the new one. Test the clone before making the swap. Not a bad idea to have a cloned copy of your system anyway. CCC will do incremental backups. a real time saver.

you could get a 2nd g2 and put one in each of the camera’s inputs. or the above combo will be better with room to grow. Though its better to have an audio tech riding the levels, I’ve done both on occasion with good results.
